subtract shapes to help create an art project.

Format: A digital presentation of each students art compiled together
Topic: What are some different shapes? How can those be used to create art?

Directions:
1. Discuss different shapes in class. What are their names? How many sides do they have?
Where do you see this shape in the real world? In the classroom?

2. Write or trace the names of different shapes. Use the Im learning about shapes
worksheet from the tlsbooks website for this activity. Add to your language journal.
3. In centers, practice using different shapes to create pictures. Practice adding and
subtracting shapes while changing the look of your pictures.
4. Use the ABCya paint program to create a shape person. Include a minimum of five
shapes. Add your name to picture, then save.
5. As a class, we will save your art into a slide show to showcase your art to others.

Assessment: In group discussion, describe the differences in shapes, including their names, how
many sides, what things in the real world look like it, etc.
In individual centers: 1- Practice writing/tracing the names of several shapes learned
about during group. Once finished, glue them into language journal. 2- Use shapes pieces to
create different pictures. Count as you add or subtract pieces to change the way it looks. 3- Use
the paint program to create a digital shape art person. Include at least five different shapes in
artwork.
As a class, we will add all pictures to a slide show presentation to share with the class and
other students and teachers.

You will receive up to 25 points for each completed section: participation in group
discussion, writing/tracing names of shapes and adding to journal, adding and subtracting shapes
to create pictures, and using paint program to create digital shape person with at least five
different shapes.

Directions:
1. Discuss what it means to be a citizen of the United States.
2. Visit the PBS Kids Democracy Project website and play the President for a Day
activity.
3. We will explore the sections What a Difference one Vote Makes and How Does
Government Affect me
4. Watch the U.S. Symbols video and complete the activity, game, and draw with me
activities. You may explore the other activities if time permits.
5. Help decide on class rules and responsibilities.
6. Help create a class video in a morning news style report of our new class rules and
responsibilities.

Assessment: Participate in class activities to learn about citizenship and government. Help in the
deciding and voting in of the Class Laws. Create a news video to inform viewers of class rules
and responsibilities.
You will receive up to 30 points each for participating in group learning activities and for
participating in the voting process. You will receive up to 40 points for completing an
informational video.

Assessment: Listen to the reading of different stories or nursery rhymes. Participate by recalling
important facts in order. Participate in telling who and what makes a book special, such as the
author, illustrator, the title page, and publishing company. Explain why each of these things are

both important and needed. Use Storyboard That to create your own three to five slide
illustrations of your favorite story or nursery rhyme and then share your presentation with the
class.
You will receive up to 15 points each for listening to stories, recalling important facts,
and telling who and what makes a book important. You will receive up to 30 points for creating a
Storyboard with at least three to five slides. You will receive up to 25 points for sharing your
presentation with the class.
