Operation Dumbo Drop

After watching our troops successfully use the

concepts of air resistance, mass, and gravity to drop
an elephant out of an airplane to a remote village,
you have been enlisted by the same village for more
help! The villagers would like to start a brand new
school. Because they are in such a remote location, it
is nearly impossible to get building supplies into the
area. CMCSS has already thought of a new plan: we
supply the village with new portable classrooms, just
like Ms. Hataways.
The only problem is, they have not figured out
how to get the portables to the village. Thats where
you come in. With your STEM team, it is your job to
help the villagers and get the portable classroom to
them so that they may start their new school. You will
have a long list of available supplies to build a
prototype device capable of delivering such a huge
mass to such a remote location. But you have a
budget to consider. Stay with in the range of $20 and
spend as little as you can to make a successful
prototype. The supplies include:
Garbage bags
Masking tape
Fabric
Duct tape
Twine
Paperclips
Aluminum foil
Etc.

In order to test your device, you will be using a

model portable classroom. For your test to be
considered successful, and to move on to the next
stage with your prototype, you must successfully
deliver the model classroom from the CMCSS bucket

truck, 60 feet in the air, to the ground without

breaking the model.
