Update March 2015

Dear Parents:
February has been an exciting month!
We celebrated Black History Month,
and we were able to learn about the
Historical contributions of many people,
such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa
Parks, and Lincoln Alexander. We
learned how each person used the 7
Habits in his or her own life. Its
amazing to see how the 7 Habits can
influence the lives of many people! We
also had trivia questions, a fashion
show, and a Caribbean Caf. Some
Grade 4 students were able to go with
Mrs. Lewis to another school to perform
some cultural dances. Great job
students! Saidat, a motivational
speaker, dancer, poet, and singer
came to our school. She empowered
the students to believe in themselves
and not to worry about what other
people think. She encouraged the
students to use Habit #5 (Seek First to
Understand; Then to be Understood).
The students were motivated to keep
using the 7 Habits in their daily lives to
become successful!

Due to inclement weather, we have not
been able to go for skating at the
community center.

Languages
In French, students are still facing
some challenges writing proper
sentences. This is evident in Edmodo. It
is important that they use all the
success criteria before they publish
their comment and evaluate the
corrections to learn from the mistakes.
Otherwise, they will keep making the
same mistakes over and over again.
The Vocapic homework need to be
completed. If they are unable to register
on the website, they can still do them.
They need to record the results as they
will not be recorded online. We hope to
complete the presentations on La
Francophonie this month.
In English, Students are completing
their Narratives. Students have been
moving through the various stages of
the writing process, such as
Brainstorming, Pre-Writing, Writing,
Editing, and Publishing. Many great
Narratives have been writing by the
students!

Social Studies

Mathematics
We have started Breakfast for the
Brain Math Activity in both classrooms.
This will give students a chance to
take-on another Leadership Role at
school. Our Grade 4 Goal (Theory of
Action) is to expose the students to as
many real-life math situations as
possible so that learning can be
maximized. Also, we will work on
multiplying
and
dividing
greater
numbers.

Science & Technology

Students will be working on their habitat

project. They will be working in pairs and
show the positive and negative impact of
human activities on habitats and/or
demonstrate an understanding of the
food chain and the interdependence of
plants and animals. They will be
presenting beginning the 1st week after
the March Break.

Students will continue to learn about

the physical and political regions of
Canada and eventually work in pairs
on the Social Studies project.

Habit 7 Sharpen the saw

Time is money. We hear that so often,

especially from those above us. We
need to be productive and not waste
precious time doing nothing. But the
truth is, we cannot always be going at
full speed. We need to take care of
our body by eating right, exercising
and getting enough sleep. We need to
spend time with our family and friends
and cultivate the priceless relationship
that makes life worth living. There is a
time for everything and one of it is to
sharpen the saw, or recharging
ourselves so that we can function at
full capacity again.
We need a well-balanced life, working
hard and also taking the time to slow
down and reflect back so that we can
make improvement in our life.
