Disease

A disease is basically anything that would cause your body to stray away from its normal
homeostatic process, or any condition that would hinder you. Diseases such as a stroke, cancer,
heart disease, diabetes, lung disease, and obesity are considered preventable diseases since they
all reflect on the way we eat or even the choices we make in our everyday life. Diabetes, obesity,
and heart disease are mostly the ones that reflect the way we eat.
Diabetes is a condition in our bodies that either, our production of insulin being hindered
since the cells of the pancreas have been attacked by our immune system (type 1), or the lack of
insulin due to the large amounts of sugar someone eats (type 2). Diabetes is known as the 7th
leading cause of death in the United States as well as worldwide. Not much has changed over the
years, there isnt a cure for diabetes, only treatment, and doctors encourage healthy meals with
exercise.
Obesity is basically a disorder of excessive fat and is a factor that could lead to other
diseases such as diabetes. The only reason this disease has been so prevalent is people poor
choices of food and lack of exercise to compensate. This disease mostly plagues people in the
United States, 34% of our population, due to our over eating citizens that might not have health
care. Other countries population has about 30% or below, so in comparison we are the fattest
country in the world, right next to Mexico. This disease can only be treated by a drastic change
in diet and exercise.
Heart diseases such as heart failure are scary diseases to have because having one of your
most vital organs not working properly is a huge red flag. Heart failure is not when the heart
simply just stops, it is when the heart isnt pumping the amount of blood it should be. This
disease is a major problem in the U.S. and usually kills off 17 million worldwide each year. The
reason this disease is so prevalent is because it reflects what you eat or even just your blood
pressure, or high levels of cholesterol in your body, mainly because this is a silent killer: most
people dont now they are on the verge of heart failure.
All these diseases are preventable by a healthy diet and exercise, though dont overdo it
because too much of a good thing isnt a good thing. My data shows that I am not susceptible to
obesity, especially since I dont meet my required calories at times. Though it shows that I am
not susceptible for diabetes and heart failure, there is still a chance, since my sugar intake is
much higher than it should be, but I decided to watch myself when taking this data; and one of
the leading causes of heart failure is high cholesterol, and it turns out that I could have it since
my mother was born with high cholesterol levels.
