I submitted applications to Santa Ana, Cypress, and Golden West community colleges.

I
choose these schools because they are either closer to home or simply beneficial for me
economically. Each of these three schools has their pros and cons, such as what majors they
offer, highlights about them, and most importantly the cost of the school. Finding information
about each school was very useful because it helped me decided on the school I plan on
attending.
The first school I learned about was Golden West College. It is located in the coastal
community of Huntington Beach. Golden West College is regarded as one of the most beautiful
campuses in southern California. Its a twoyear, medium sized college serving over 10,000
students on a 122-acre campus. The college is highly regarded for academic quality and
innovation. It offers Associates in Arts (AA), a strong university transfer program, and general
education. Golden West College is an open-access institution. As such, all students are
admissible if they have a high school diploma, or equivalent, or are at least 18 years of age. They
are a commuter campus and do not have dormitories. Another good thing about Golden West is
that its ten minutes away from home, so its very convenient.
Although Golden West College is very close to home, another school I chose to apply to
was Cypress College. At Cypress College their main priority is seeing students become
successful. They carry a proud reputation for academic excellence. They offer high-quality and
student focused support services. Cypress academic and vocational programs are supported with
a wide array of services like assessments, counseling and guidance, study skills classes, a library,
and a learning center for individual and group study and tutoring. Something I learned about this
college in particular is that its a school that nurtures student achievement and encourages student

involvement. One downside about this school is that its not as close to home, but the school
certainly presents a lot more enthusiasm and pride.
Overall each school definitely has their pros and cons about them but one I truly enjoyed
learning about is Santa Ana College. The mission of Santa Ana College is to be a leader and
partner in meeting the intellectual, cultural, technological, and workforce development needs of
their diverse community. This college is located at the corner of West 17th street and Bristol in
Santa Ana. It provides access and equity in a dynamic learning environment that prepares
students for transfer, careers and lifelong intellectual pursuits in a global community. They boast
one of the most successful athletic programs in California community college athletic
associations. Theyve won six national titles, 25 state championships and 101 conference
championships. Santa Ana College is ranked as one of the nations top two-year colleges
awarding degrees to Latino and Asian students. This college has evolved into one of the most
energetic and fastest-growing comprehensive community colleges in the nation, currently serving
29,318 credit and non-credit students per semester. Santa Ana College will turn 100 years old in
2015.
The school I plan on attending is Santa Ana College. The reason I choose this specific
college over the others I mentioned qis because the others dont offer the specific major I would
like to pursue, which is pharmacy tech. Unlike Golden West and Cypress, Santa Ana established
one of the first pharmacy tech training programs in the U.S. in the year of 1972. Later, in 1984,
they became the first community college to be accredited by the American Society of Health
System Pharmacy(ASHP). Another reason I choose this school is because many of their classes
are offered on campus in the day time and in the evening. Some classes also have hybrid versions
which combine on campus and online learning. In my case that would definitely benefit me

because since this campus is a little bit further away from home it means I wouldnt have to
worry so much about missing class. Additionally, they also offer an Associates degree plus a
certificate and both are also ASHP accredited. Overall, finding information about each school
was very useful because it helped me decided on the school I plan on attending.
