Title: Music Video Editing

Lesson Description:
- Once students have created a video utilizing mobile/video technology, students will be
will then create a score that would accompany the video.

Materials needed:
- Mobile device (smart phone/tablets/) or digital camera
- Laptop or Desktop (if needed)
- Various props (if needed)
- instruments
- manuscript paper
- finale/Sibelius music programs
- sound recording equipment/ programs

Teachable Methods:
1. Teacher will in a series of lesson show how to use the notation software. The
students will have experience in composing music.
2. Student will work in groups of 3 and will contribute equally to the soundtrack.
3. Students will have access to practice rooms to create their work separately from
others.
4. Students will have peer and self-assessments once the assignment is completed

Accommodations for students with IEPs


- Additional time
- Additional support
- Students may work on the project at home
- Students with auditory exceptionalities may use a quiet room or work on their own if
they wish.
- Students who have difficulty with fine motor skills may have a more active role in
aurally composing the piece.
- Use of assistive technology encouraged in all parts of the assignment.

Leaning Experience/Instruction
Motivational Hook Show students examples of program music that enhances the
action on the screen. Examples from Silent Hill 2 walking down a hall, Wall-E travelling
in space.(10 minutes)
Open Students will have been shown how to create their own composition prior to this
assignment. Music editors will have also been shown. A review of how to use the
programs will be shown. Students will have their own instruments and access to
instruments provided by the teacher. The importance of video accompanied by music is
discussed. How can music enhance a video and create emotion in the viewer? As well
how can technology be used to further enhance a composition will be discussed (10
mins)
Body ( 50 MINS):

Students will be put into groups of 3 depending on class size.


Students will already have the visual component of the project completed. The
students will then start to work on the score/soundtrack for their piece. If they
wish to add in vocals they are more than welcome. The project is open ended so
to allow all students to express themselves as they wish.

Students will then go off on their own and work on their projects. It should take a
week to complete a score and adding it to the video. The teacher will go around
to all groups and assist when needed.
Half way through the week student will get peer reviews on what they have
accomplished so far.
When the groups are finished their compositions they will present them to the
class. Each group member will write a self-assessment after the presentation.

Close ( 5 MINS):
Remind students of how long they have to complete the assignment. Make sure that
they save their work on their computer/device, replace material, arrange their personal
belongings so they can exit the class, and be ready to move on to the next class once
the bell rings.
