Observation 2:

I chose to interpret the

scene where

M and A are dancing and singing.

Social-Emotional:
o M and A establish and sustain positive relationships with one another by playing
and singing with each other. (M and A sing and dance, they use drumming sticks
to make music and enjoy doing it with each other.)
o They participate cooperatively and constructively in group situations by taking
turns. (M and A take turns signing songs and making their own music.)
Physical:
o They demonstrate gross motor skills by using flexible body movements. (M and
A dance around swinging the drum sticks and moving their whole body. They do
this with flexible movements, not stiff body movements.)
Language:
. They use language to express thoughts and needs by expanding their vocabulary.
(M and A talk to each other about their songs they have made up and M says A's
song was "wonderful." I thought this was a pretty good describing word for her.)
. They speak clearly and use conventional grammar to express their thoughts and
needs. (M and A use words to talk among each other. When M is singing she
understands that letters make words, so she is pointing to letters on X's family
board as if they were spelling out what she was saying. A points to the word
"cabinet" and tells M that it says "no singing." They both speak clearly and
understand each other.)
o They use appropriate conversational and communication skills by engaging in
conversation. (M and A use conlmunication skills to understand what one another
is saying and requesting. They say "lets drum on the floor now," also they both
understand and tell each other that the letters on the wall are the ABC's.)
Cognitive:
. They remember and connect experiences by making connections. (A and M
remember that the letters make words, they pretend to read the words on the
walls. M points the words on the chalkboard and tell A "this is the ABC's" They
both connect the meaning of letters between the concept of words.)
Literacy:
. They demonstrate knowledge of the alphabet. (they don't know what the words
are saying or which letters they are, but they understand that the letters are put
together to form words. They know some letters but in this scene they don't
actually show that they know those ietters.)
o They demonstrate knowledge of print and its uses by showing they understand
that text is meaningful and can be read and also by pointing to the beginning of a
word and showing the right direction to be read. (Same scenario, they show that
they understand that text is meant to be read, but they cannot actually read the
words. M uses the drumstick to point to the beginning of X's name and drags it to
the end, she is 'reading' it.)

Observation Journals

They explore musical concepts and expression. (M and A dance have drum sticks
and they use them for drumming. They use science viewers as drums and make
music with them, while singing. They also make up songs as they dance and
drum.)
They explore dance and movement concepts. (M and A dance around while
singing. They use full body movements and swing the drum sticks around while
they sing and dance.)
Themes/interests:
During this observation they enjoyed dancing, singing and drumming. M and A
did this for about 15-20 minutes. They started offby just singing, then progressed
to singing while drumming. After that they danced and sung made-up songs.
They sang and danced during circle time also.
While on the playground they balanced as they walked along hee stumps that
were laid on their side.

Planning:
We could do lesson plans about music and dancing. We could talk about different
cultures and listen to diffErent cultures' music. We could make up songs to go to different
beats, and while we are singing we could be using instruments also. There could be
several different activities about musical instruments.
Also, I could plan curriculum on going on different obstacle sourses involving balancing,
jumping, crawling, walking, etc. They all liked balancing along the tree stumps, so they
would enjoy that kind of activity.
