functions mein domain and range

You take a function, and convert it into a completing square form. a(x-h)^2 +k now 'a' defines the
function. Whether the function will have a maximum point or minimum point. If a is positive, the
function will have a minimum point and vice versa. Now, (-h) remember it's a - so the -h is the x
coordinate of the min/max point and the k is the y co ordinate.. The x co ordinate is also known as
the domain because if you plug in a value in a function say f(x)=(x-2)^2 -3 it will give you a value for
f(x). You'll see then if the curve has a maximum point or minimum point. Minimum point in this case
since a is positive. This means the y (range) will be greater than the y co ordinate of the turning
point. If it were a minimum point, the y (range) would be less than the y co ordinate of the maximum
point. You'll take the tuning point then which is (2,-3) in this case and you'll see the given domain
which in most cases is all real numbers. Range is y>-3 because any value of x will give you a value
which is greater than -3. The range is -3 and domain is all real numbers. If you're asked to give the
domain and range of an inverse function, the domain of the original function becomes the range of
the inverse function and vice versa. :) Hope this helps.
