ISSUE: What can we (as a united faction) do to eradicate
global hunger?
Country Assigned: Saudi Arabia
1.)What is the current status of the 'issue' in your country?

Global hunger problem is a very big problem that had been ignored from many nation to
corroborate together for solving it.There are about 805 million undernourished people in the world
today and 98% of them are in developing countries.It means that one in nine do not get enough
healthy food while and have active life.Hunger and malnutrition are the number one risk factor of
worldwide health.Hunger problem kills more people every year than AIDS,malaria and tuberculosis
combined.Poor nutrition causes nearly 45% of deaths in children under five means 3.1 million
children per year.Asia is the continent is the most hungry people with two thirds of the
total.Percentage of Southern Asia fallen in recent year but increased slightly in Western Asia.
Saudi Arabia is the largest Arab state in Western Asia and also the wealthiest nations in the
region.Saudi Arabia has has an oil-based economy with strong government to control over
economic activities.Now Saudi Arabia rank as the largest export petroleum that makes economic of
Saudi Arabia to be strong and stable.Another example of good economic is GDP per capita in
Saudi Arabia was last recorded at 18033US dollar it is equivalent to 143 percent of worlds
average.Problem of extreme hunger in Saudi Arabia is simply define as small problem due to
strong economic.
In 2004 the proportion of Saudi households living under the extreme food poverty stood at
0.08%.Thus,Saudi Arabia has achieved the 1st UN millennium development goals of eradicate of
food poverty,percentage of families living under extreme poverty was 1.63% in 2004 to 0.8% in
2008.

2.) What is your country's stand on the 'issue'?

Saudi Arabia have becomes leading donor fighting hunger world wide.Government of Saudi Arabia
has donated nearly US$31 million in 2006 and in past 2 years they donate nearly US$10 million to
World Food Programme (WFP) that collaborating with United Nation (UN).In Asia Saudi Arabia is
the biggest of donor to WFP,and funds went to WFP have save million of lives from hunger.

3.) Explain the reason for the stand.

According to world fact book Saudi Arabias economic is 62 % of industry 35.5% of service and
2% of agriculture.Low of agriculture economic rate causes by Saudi Arabia geography which is
mostly Arabian desert.It is impossible for farming and growing crop in hot dry desert.In this case, all
country in this region such as Qatar,United Arab Emirate and Iran this country all face the same
problem of low agriculture but they all have a lot of money to support and eradicate global hunger.
Rich countries that have money but cant make agriculture to support they can be donor of WFP
that collaborate with UN or collaborate with producing countries of agriculture commodities such as
China , Brazil ,India and United State to increase food and help world wide.People cant eat money
but money can help people to survive,this solution need UN to be organisation in the middle to help
reduce problem of corruption that will happen for sure. This solution can help a lot of countries but
first we choose start in Africa region that have a lot of problem of hunger like malnutrition , lack of

clean water and not enough food.This solution is long term solution because at first we need to find
countries that can collaborate with and focus on solving problem in different region.
Another short term solution can be agreement of food security reserve that every countries need to
join as one organisation and help each other when have emergencies case like natural
disaster.Natural disaster are one of problem that cant prevent and it alway lead to hunger problem,
this solution can also focus in one country and do as best as we can to solve problem then move to
another country.This both solution will be possible if every countries unite together because global
hunger is one of the hardest problem that UN face.
