Dear [insert principals name here],
I am writing to express my interest in the opening listed on the Mesa Public Schools website for
a 7th grade Language Arts teacher at [Example Middle School]. My name is Kendra Nielsen and I
have recently graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors Degree in Secondary
Education with a concentration in English. Upon completing my education through the Mary
Lou Fulton Teachers College, I am enthusiastic to apply what I have learned to a middle school
Language Arts class of my own. As part of the iTeachAZ program, I have completed three
semesters (225 hours) of clinical classroom observations, as well as five months of full-time
student teaching with experienced, qualified English educators.
My content knowledge, lesson delivery and instructional planning abilities will enable me to
perform this job successfully. With over two years of experience writing and implementing
English lesson plans for students in grades 7-12, I have refined my knowledge of English, my
public speaking, and my instructional planning to make them effective in these environments.
My education at Arizona State University has exposed me to a wide variety of literary works and
has provided me with in-depth knowledge of the English language and literature from around the
world. These classes and internships have allowed me to practice my public speaking and lesson
delivery skills in front of my peers as well as Arizona students. The instructional plans that I
have created and continue to develop these past few years demonstrate my ability to effectively
implement the Arizona College and Career Readiness Standards through engaging, innovative
activities that motivate students to build both their English Language Arts skills as well as 21stcentury skills.
My objectives for the classroom are to make each student feel that his or her individual
perspectives, opinions, and ideas are respected and valued both by myself and their peers. It is
my goal to create a classroom environment in which students are able to work collaboratively to
construct knowledge. I an open and welcoming to student and parent feedback in regards to the
curriculum in order to ensure that my students are receiving a relevant English education that
will prepare them for post-secondary education and future careers.
As a graduate from the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, I have been well prepared to teach
English Language Arts. I am very excited about this opportunity and believe that my skills,
experience, and passion will be a valuable asset to your school community. I would greatly
appreciate the opportunity to speak with you in greater detail regarding this position at your

school I can be reached via cell phone at (480) ***-**** or by email at kmniels4@asu.edu.
Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely,

Kendra Nielsen
