4. To orient the students about the Bicol University College Y Club (BU CYC) as well as the principles
of the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA).

III. Narrative Report:

The 1st Young Peoples Assembly was organized by the BU College Y Club (BU CYC) in order to orient
the students about the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA) and to encourage them to be active
youths. The activity formally started with the Opening Remarks of Ronald Onguda, BU CYC President,
and a simple orientation about the organization to the students interested to become members. The
orientation continued through the discussion on the Life in YMCA by Ms. Lalaine Raposon, Albay
YMCA Member and BU CYC Alumni, who clearly explained the vision, mission, and goals of the
international organization aiming for the empowerment of the youth. After her discussion, Prof. Clea
L. Bongat, Faculty-in-Charge and CBEM Adviser, made an encouraging speech before proceeding to the
election of the new set of officers. The incumbent BU CYC President presided over the assembly in
opening the floor for nominations which concluded with the election of the following students:

II. Objectives:
1. To inform the students of their responsibility in making gender-sensitive decisions during and
after their college years.
2. To provide essential facts and knowledge on gender issues that affect oneself and the
community as a whole.
3. To recognize gender-based constraints and how to overcome them.
4. To orient the students about the Bicol University College Y Club (BU CYC) as well as the
principles of the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA), particularly about responsible
sexuality.
III. Narrative Report:
The Forum on Gender Sensitivity and Responsible Sexuality was conducted by the Bicol University College Y Club in partnership with the JPMAP - BU Chapter partly in celebration of the International
Day of the Elimination of the Violence against Women and Children. The activity was attended by
students taking up the course BSBA in Human Resource. After the registration, the program formally
started with the Invocation Prayer and the Singing of the Philippine National Anthem through an Audio
Visual Presentation (AVP). It was followed by the Opening Remarks of Ronald Onguda, BU CYC
President who explained the rationale for this activity to the college students. Then, an AVP on Gender
Sensitivity was presented to the students in order for them to analyze a scenario and explain it on their
own perspectives. After that, Dr. Dolores Laguilles expressed her sentiments on the elimination of the
violence against women and encourage the students to be pro-active on gender-related issues. The
main topic of Gender Sensitivity in the Workplace was brilliantly discussed by Prof. Glenton Guiriba
before ending the activity with the Closing Remarks from Vanesa Dino, JPMAP Vice President. The
activity enlightened the minds of the participants on gender issues in guiding them as future Human
Resource managers.

2. To take cognizance of the actual situation and needs of the community.
3. To instill in the student, faculty, staff and parents the deeper sense of service.
4. To give a chance to the students to serve the community while applying their learnings in the
college.
III. Narrative Report:
An outreach program was initially planned to be organized by 8 Student Organizations, including the
BU College Y Club. The selected community was barangay Magogon, Camalig, Albay. The organizers
coordinated with the Barangay Captain to better facilitate the outreach. Prof. Clea Bongat (CBEM Y
Adviser) and Prof. Virginia Gonzales came along with the student leaders of the different
organizations. Before we started the program, we gathered the children and their parents of the
barangay hall for the short opening program. The children then participated in various games while the
parents attended a seminar on parent guidance with Prof. Clea Bongat as speaker. During the
program, foods, school supplies and donations were distributed to the parents and their children while
enjoying the event. The outreach ended with everyone - the beneficiaries, the organizers, and the
faculties - treasuring the experiences and memories of such a worthwhile activity.

III. Narrative Report:

The Youth Power for Regional Development was spearheaded by the BU College Y Club (BU CYC) in
partnership with BU OMC and CBEM Seniors Club. The activity formally started at about 9:00am with
the Invocation Prayer and Singing of the Philippine National Anthem through an Audio Visual
Presentation. Mary Claire Rico, CBEM Y Secretary, gave a short opening remark before the
introduction of Mr. Noe Dichoso as the resource speaker from the National Economic Development
Authority (NEDA). He mainly discussed the Bicol Regional Development Plan (RDP) as well as the duties
and functions of NEDA. The second resource speaker of the seminar was the knowledgeable Atty.
Norly Reyes who discussed the topic Youth Participation in Economic Development in order to
enlighten the students of their power and responsibility in gearing-up the economy of the nation. After
his speech, an open forum was held before formally ending the activity with the Closing Remarks from
Ronald Onguda, BU CYC President. Through this seminar, the students became aware of the Regional
Development Plan (RDP) along with their role in nation building.

The Mini-Enviro Summit was spearheaded by the BU College Y Club in partnership with CBEM NSRC
and CBEM NSTP to be a simultaneous activity with the 1st Young Peoples Assembly. The activity
formally started simultaneously with the 1st Young Peoples Assembly at about 10:00am with the
Opening Announcements of the BU CYC President. The six contestants are then given with materials to
be use for their poster making. The contest judges are Prof. Clea L. Bongat (CBEM Y Adviser) and Prof.
Norilyn O. De Chavez (BU CYC Adviser). The prizes for the contest are as follows: 1st prize - P500 and TShirt, 2nd prize - P300 and T-Shirt, and 3rd prize - P200. After evaluating the scores given by the
judges, the top poster makers awarded with certificates and prizes were Francis Angelo Dechavez,
Nikko Sario, and Daisyrie Rey while the Peoples Choice Award was given to Jaira Zurbito for having the
most likes of his poster in the Facebook page (ww.facebook.com/BUYMCA) of the organization.
Through this poster making contest, the students became aware of the environment while exposing
their artistic skills.

III. Narrative Report:

An outreach program focused on Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) was initially planned to
be organized by CBEM NSRC and CBEM Y (college of unit of BU CYC) in barangay Magogon which is an
adopted community of the BU College of Business, Economics and Management. The arrival of the
organizers, speakers and participants started the activity. Before the discussion, an invocation prayer
was played and an opening remark was given by Mary Grace Martinez, Executive Head. The first
speaker was Prof. Clea Bongat who relates disaster preparedness with family planning while raising
awareness about the importance of Disaster Risk Reduction Management. She was followed by her
former student Mr. Emmanuel Prea who discussed the environmental aspects of DRRM. Finally, Mr.
Rey Anouevo comprehensively discussed the status of DRRM in the province and its effectivity in
reducing the problems of natural calamities. The outreach ended with the barangay delegates satisfied
with knowledge and information about the environment and the DRRM.

III. Narrative Report:

The YMCA of the Philippines through the Association of Professional Directors had organized the 2014
National Academic Olympics with the theme: Empowering Young People for various YMCA Student
Organizations to compete. In response to their invitation, the BU College Y Club sent four active
members in the persons of Ronald Onguda, Francis Angelo Dechavez, January Merilles, and Mary
Grace Martinez along with their adviser/coach Prof. Clea Bongat to actively compete in the said
national event. It was also attended by other YMCA member-students from various colleges and
universities in the Philippines. Ronald Onguda, Francis Angelo Dechavez, and January Merilles
competed on the Quiz Bowl Competition, while Mary Grace Martinez competed in the Oratory.
Although none of our participants emerged victorious, they enjoyed the activities as their intellectual
skills are put into test. They described the whole competition as a memorable experience which ended
with all them satisfied and ready to compete again.

The Bicol University - University Student Council had organized the 12th Student Governance Training
(SGT) with the theme: ZERO to HERO: A Leap to Proactivism towards Good Governance and National
Resiliency of which University Based Organizations are invited to participate. In response, Ronald
Onguda as the President of BU College Y Club registered to participate in the said event. According to
him, the 12th SGT was such a memorable activity due to its enjoyable hardships along with the
building of newly found friendships with fellow student leaders.

3. To participate in different interactive games and competitions that helped promote a healthy
spirit, mind, and body.
4. To learn more about the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA).

III. Narrative Report:

The Bicol University sent delegates the 39th YMCA National Congress of College Students and the 19th
YMCA National Congress Club Advisers Seminar Workshop with the theme: Youth Rev: Towards a Just
Society. One of the BU delegates for this national event is Mary Ann F. Caceres, CAL Y Officer and BU
CYC Representative. According to her, she learned further about the YMCA and its aspects: spirit,
mind, and body through the course of the program. The event was formally commenced by an
interfaith worship and an orientation. The participants, both students and advisers, were assigned by
commission into crowd/groups composed of 15 commissions. Through this assignment, the
participants from the different parts of the country get to know each other and build friendships. Each
group created their creative cheers and presents it into stage which everyone enjoyed. Many more
activities and seminars were participated by the BU delegates of which they were able to learn further
and garner awards. Sir Anthony Lorcha, the adviser/coach of the BU delegates was awarded as the
best Adviser/chairman. January Merilles won as the champion in the extemporaneous speaking and as
first place in debate competition while Francis Dechavez won as 2nd place in the Yers got talent and
Glannelle Ivy Cea won also as the 2nd placer in Essay writing Filipino. Bicol University was awarded as
the best outstanding delegates. According to Ms. Caceres, the national event was indeed a new
experience for all of them as they enjoy and learn new things.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Albay has again conducted the Albay Youth Caravan which gives
the young leaders of Albay free medical services, scholarship grants and lectures on different societal
issues. The event was graced by the Provincial Governor of Albay, Governor Joey Sarte Salceda who
gave his inspirational message to the youth. Furthermore, the event also invited resource speakers
from the different sectors of the government who gave talk about the Volunteerism, Adolescents and
Early-Pregnancy, Anti-Bullying, Drug Abuse, Human-Trafficking, Nutrition and Healthy Lifestyle and

Mae Barquilla as the External Vice President of BU College Y Club registered to participate in the said
event. According to her, the 6th BCGC gave her treasured moments and new friends. Her team was
able to win the Quiz Bowl Competition.
