Unit Title: Fun with Geometrical Figures

Name: Corina Hernandez

Content Area: Math 7

Grade Level: 7th grade

CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):

o 7.G Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them.
o 7.G.2 Draw geometric shapes with given conditions: (freehand, with ruler and protractor, and with technology). Focus on
constructing triangles from three measures of angles or sides, noticing when the conditions determine a unique triangle, more than
one triangle, or no triangle.
o 7.G.3 Describe the two-dimensional figures that result from slicing three-dimensional figures, as in plane sections of right
rectangular prisms and right rectangular pyramids. Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area,
surface area, and volume.
o 7.G.4 Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and use them to solve problems; give an informal derivation
of the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle.
o 7.G.5 Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write & solve simple
equations for an unknown angle in a figure.
Big Ideas:
Essential Questions:
What is the relationship between the area and circumference of a circle?
2. How can we solve for an unknown angle?
3. How is the area of a 2-dimensional figure related to the volume of a 3-dimensional figure?
4. How can we determine whether 3 side lengths will make a triangle?
Big Idea for entire Unit: Geometric figures can be compared by their relative values.
Lesson 1: The big ideas/goals is for students to understand different shapes in geometry and be able to know the difference between the
several shapes. Students should also be able to know all different types of triangles and provide the teacher with a definition and drawing
of each type of triangle.
Lesson 2: The big goal for this lesson is for students to construct and create 2D geometrical figures with the use of technology.
Lesson 3: The big goal for this lesson is for students to define the terns used (radius, diameter, circumference), derive a formula to

compute the circumference of a circle, and be able to calculate the circumference of any circle given the diameter or radius.
Unit Goals and Objectives:
1. Students will be able to:
Identify different geometrical shapes by using their definitions or constructions.
Construct triangles by using a ruler and protractor.
Calculate the sum of the three angles of a triangle to make 180.
2. Students will be able to:
Construct and create geometrical figures using technology and free hand.
Solve real-world problems by using the construction of the geometrical figure on Geogebra.
3. Students will be able to:
Define radius, diameter, pi and circumference.
Solve for the circumference of a circle using the proper formula with correct calculation.
Explain how to solve for the circumference and check the validity of their reasoning.
