Under this section, you will explain why creating an awareness campaign is important to you as a
Design student and how the Design Cycle will help you arrive at a solution. You can use the
following questions and statements to guide you.

Identify and
prioritize the
research.

What is the nature of the problem?

Who is it a problem for?
How a proposed solution can address the problem
What do you hope to learn?
What excites you about working on this project?
What worries you about working on this project?
Why is this problem important?

Make a table and label it Research Plan. Make 4 columns as shown below and fill in each
section with questions or topics to research. Don't answer the questions just yet! Instead, justify
why the question is important. Specify what resources you will use to answer your questions.
Finally, prioritize your questions in order of importance (you do not need to rearrange your
questions, just type in the numbers.

In your own words, write a summary of your research. What was interesting? What did you
learn? How will you use this information to design your awareness campaign?

Write objective, measurable and achievable specifications in complete sentences

You can refer to the specification checklist for ways to develop specifications
Originally posted October 3, NEW_Design_Spec_Worksheet.odt
You do not need to write tests at this stage
Number the specifications
The specifications should relate to your product and process of creating your product
Include a sketch or detailed description for each of your ideas
Produce at least 3 ideas
The ideas should include three components:
A complete description of how the awareness campaign material(s) look(s), images
you will use, and other major details
A description of where you will place your awareness campaign material(s)
The size of your awareness campaign material(s)
Make sure your designs conform to, or meet, your design specifications
Make a table that shows how each design passes or fails your design specifications if
you were to actually make it. This will help you visualize it and whether it would be
worth pursuing
Show your chosen design
It may have changed from the previous step, so be sure to mention changes or

improvements
Justify why you have chosen this design. What are some reasons why you chose this
design over the others, or what the other designs did not have that this one did have.
Use information from the design specifications to help justify your choice
Use reasonable, objective arguments why you chose this design, not just subjective
reasons (such as, It just looks nice.).
Show additional planning drawings or diagrams that illustrate your chosen design
The drawing or diagram:
can include a photograph or drawing of the location on campus where your
awareness campaign will take place
should be clearly labeled
does not have to be in color
can be hand drawn or digitally drawn
should be included in your document as a jpg or scanned file

Creating the Solution Task Sheet

Grade 10
Awareness Campaign
Task

What does this look like?

Construct a
logical plan

Please do not write the plan as you create your product. The idea is to plan first, then create.
Make a 3 x 7+ table with the following headings: Task, Duration, Notes. Task: An
explanation of what you need to do, Duration: an estimation of how long it will take you,
and Notes: any information to clarify the task.
For example, Task:Take a picture of a car that has been in a crash. Duration: 45
minutes. Notes: I saw a car that was in a crash and it is on Sukhumvit near soi 4. I
live near there and I will take the picture when I go home on Tuesday, Feb. 17.
How many tasks do I need?
Focus on this instead: Your plan should be detailed enough so that someone else could
follow it and end up making your product.
Note: You do not need to evaluate your plan.

Demonstrate
technical skills

Follow the plan to

make the solution

Justify changes
made to the
design

Technical skills relates to the degree which your hand drawings or computer work you
create help you pass your specifications
If you are making an object to put in the school's lobby, make sure it meets your
specifications, looks like a quality product, and is an example of your technical skills
(painting, creativity, craftsmanship, lettering, etc.)
Quality is what you should be striving for, not quantity.
You may want to write a reflection about your successes, challenges and failures
throughout the creation of your product
Make notes of changes in tasks you have missed, differences in duration, and notes that
could be improved. You should use a different text color to indicate the changes.
The changes and notes you make on your plan are proof that you followed the plan.

Sometimes unexpected things arise, and changes have to be made.

Thoroughly explain any changes you made to your product.
If your final design choice from the Developing Ideas stage looks different after
you create it, you should have an explanation why it is different

Evaluating Stage

Make a new
section in your
document for
the
Evaluating
stage
Design testing
methods

For every design specification, you should have a test statement.

You can use this table as a guide to help you write the test statement

Specifcation

The target market

for my awareness
campaign will be
teenagers, aged 15
to 18 at KIS.

What you will do to

ensure you pass the
specifcation?

I have researched what

makes an effective
awareness campaign to
this target group and I
have learned how to
present the information to
them.

The test statement:

should be directly related to the

specifcation;

should prove that you passed or did

not pass the specifcation.
Ask yourself this question: If I follow this
test statement, will I be able to determine if I
passed or failed the specifcation?

I will present a screenshot of the results of

the survey I sent to KIS teenagers that
determine their reaction to my awareness
campaign.

Here is how someone would write a test statement if they were making a car.
My car will be one meter Before I weld it together, I will measure the completed car's length and width
long by two meters wide. I will make measure the and record the results.
parts twice to ensure it is
one meter long by two
meters wide.
In your document, it would look like this:

Testing Methods
1. The target market for my awareness campaign will be teenagers, aged 15 to 18 at KIS.
Test: I will present a screenshot of the results of the survey I sent to KIS teenagers that determine
their reaction to my awareness campaign.

Evaluate the
success of the
solution

Evaluating is usually in the form of Pass or Fail

Underneath each set of design specifications and test statements, write the
results of your test. Please explain why you passed or failed.

Explain how
the solution
could be
improved

What could you have done differently to improve your awareness campaign?
What did you not have enough time to complete? What did you want to do but
didn't know how to, or did not have time to do? Please explain with as much
detail as possible. You can also present screenshots of your awareness campaign
and describe improvements. You do not have to make the improvements.

Explain the
impact of the
solution

Get feedback from a focus group (a small group) of students. The audience's
response can come in the form of a survey, a question and answer session, or they
can give you feedback.

Based on the feedback, explain what kind of impact your awareness campaign had
on your focus group. Is it what you expected? Why or why not? What are some
reasons for its success or failure?
