WORK RESEARCHER & EXPERIMENTER, DONNELLEY BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
EXPERIENCE LEARNING CENTER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
COLLEGIATE DIVISION
JUNE 2014 - PRESENT
Under the guidance of the primary investigator and a graduate teaching assistant, I
perform research on Antibiotic Resistance in bacteria using an In Vitro Method while
looking at various genes and Transcription Factors. I designed a research project with the
help of my mentors on bacterial fitness. My research continues during the school year
and I have contacted my mentors throughout the year in case I needed help. We also
characterized the bacteria by using the genetic sequence facility located in the University
of Chicago to determine phylogeny of various bacterias examined and to look at rotamers
and steric hindrances on various antibiotics used.
RESEARCHER, CONTAGION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO
JULY 2014 AUGUST 2014
Through the advanced guidance of Dr. Fineschi, HIV and Herpes simplex were studied;
That includes ELISA staining and testing for HIV using various wells and measurements,
and studying a virus and a bacteria of any choice; virus plaques were looked at and
scientific understanding were done by studying basic biological concepts pertaining to the
subject like Horizontal Gene Transfer, operon inhibition, and mutation rate calculations of
bacteria at the University of Chicago Biological Sciences Division
HOSPITAL VOLUNTEER NORTH SHORE UNIVERSAL HEALTHSYSTEMS
JUNE 2013 - PRESENT
Helps out nurses and staff at the Post Surgery Orthopedic wing. Experience in working
with doctors, nurses, and patients in a hospital setting

STEM INQUIRY & RESEARCH STUDENT NILES NORTH HIGHSCHOOL, SKOKIE,

ILLINOIS
AUGUST 2013 - MAY 2015
This class is designed to encourage students with special ability and/or interest in science
to go beyond the limits of the classroom in developing their own ideas and perhaps aiding
them in their progress towards a career in science. As members, students develop,
design and execute individual scientific research and experimentation. Students are
encouraged to exhibit and compete with their research at various local and state
expositions.

SKILLS AND LABORATORY EQUIPMENT

ABILITIES Light microscopy (Used in observing cells), Fluorescence microscopy (used to study
properties of organic and inorganic molecules), Thermocycler (used in Polymerase Chain
Reaction and used to create targeted DNA sequence fragments), Centrifuge (used to spin
down objects and used to separate by weight), Hemocytometer (used to perform cell
counts), Incubator (to culture various types of bacteria), Laminar Flow Hood Class 1 and
Class 2 (used to perform certain microscopic experiments to keep the micro-system
hygienic and prevent contamination), Burner Plates (used to create nutrient agar broths
and to spin down certain liquids to a point of dissolving, Gel Electrophoresis (to separate
DNA and various proteins by size, charge)
LABORATORY TECHNIQUES
Serial dilutions, Gram-Staining Bacteria, working with various broth suspensions
(knowledgeable and performed eukaryotic cultures and sub cultures, bacterial cultures in
various suspension, and viral plaque suspensions) , pipetting, performing cell counts
manually and through a hemocytometer, three way streaking, growing viral plaques,
sequencing genomes (using Sequencher), running the Gel Electrophoresis, trypsinizing
and taking care of eukaryotic cultures, autoclaving cell lines, and performing the ELISA
test for HIV
SAFETY
Laboratory trained and passed (certification course required) at the University of Chicago
in Biological Safety Cabinets, Chemical Hygiene, Fire Safety with multiple classes of fries,
and in Emergency Evacuations.
SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH
Can write a scientific research paper, and examine scientific articles on a given topic.
Proficient in the scientific method.
