Proposal to Create a Training and Reference Manual for
New Sacker/Stocker Employees at Brookshire Brothers

TECM 2700
Section 008 3/30/15
Monica Ng
_

Summary
Brookshire Brothers new stocker/sacker employees do not have a manual to reference and
therefore need a Training and Reference Manual. Due to a lack of well trained and available
time to train new employees, most times those new employees are paired with employees who
are fairly unexperienced themselves. These employees usually tend to leave out or disregard
proper responsibilities that the new employee must accomplish. This can lead to an inefficient
works style that will damage the company sales and lower overall employee performance. By
creating this manual, we will provide a resource to new employees that they can reference in
order for them to establish efficient routines and customs in the workplace. This manual, will
establish the daily and weekly duties of the employees, so new employees whilst still learning
their duties can reference it and figure out what they must do. It will also include company
policies such as attire, code of conduct, and other formalities that new employees may have
questions over.
I can create a rough draft of this manual within two weeks of the approved proposal date. I have
calculated that the materials and supplies to make the manual will cost an estimated $52.37. I
have determined the cost of the labor to be $850.00, however I am willing to provide the labor
for this manual so the total cost to the company would be the cost of the materials. If the
proposal is approved and the rough draft is satisfactory a final copy of the manual will be given
one month after the rough draft.
Current Problems at Brookshire Brothers
Brookshire Brothers must hire new employees on a regular basis due to an undesirable
employee turnover rate. Employee performance has reached critically low levels in the past few
years that it is beginning to affect our sales and overall customer satisfaction. In a normal
situation the most well trained employees are set to train new employees however due to the
demand of the well trained employees never have the time to train the new employees. This
results in employees with less experience training the new employees, and can therefore result
in a poor first training due to their lack of experience.
An example I could provide, would been a recent occurrence where a new employee on his
second day left three daily tasks uncompleted and resulted in more labor for the morning shift
employees. Further delaying their ability to begin their tasks and affecting our displays and
sales. This is a perfect example of how the new employees inexperience affected the stores
overall performance that day. This all occurred due to the fact that the employee who trained the
new employee forgot to mention the tasks the employee forgot. While it is true the employee
who trained him is at fault the new employee should have a manual that lists the tasks so he
can reference at the end of the night.
The main goal of Brookshire Brothers is to provide the best customer service possible to its
customers. Therefore making them return at later dates and increasing sales. However due to a
recent drop of the average experience between sacker and stocker employees, there has been
a decline in sales and an overall inefficiency within the workforce.

Proposed Solution: A Training and Reference Manual

The proposed training manual will provide new stocker and sacker employees with training and
information to
Aid them with day to day tasks that must be completed by the end of the day
Describe to them the company policies such as our customer service priority
Remind them of tasks that must be completed on a less recent schedule such as weekly
or monthly
Provide them with a layout of the store to reference
Describe to them store events such as Inventory and how it will change employees
procedures for that set time period
I will write the Training and Reference Manual from my two and a half years experience with the
company and consult the personal office for more detailed information such as detailed
company policies and a detailed map of the store to create the store layout reference. The
Training and Reference Manual will include the following sections.
Company Policies and Layout
Customer Service
Attire
Work Hours
Layout of the store
Holidays
Sacker Daily Duties
Filling Dairy Products
Maintaining the Store in an Orderly Fashion
Petro
Bread
Sodas and Water
Bathrooms
Produce
Stocker Daily Duties
Ad Wall
Pallets
Blocking
Working Trucks
Cleaning the Backroom
Sunday Back Stock
Inventory
Description of What Inventory Is
Detailed Possible Change in Daily Stocker Duties
Detailing the Store

As stated before, I can complete the Training and Reference Manual one month after the
approved rough draft is satisfactory. I will be conversing and questioning other Brookshire
Brothers employees to review the rough draft for added details and any other sections that
could be added. By combing the thoughts of the current workforce this Training and Reference
Manual will be created to hopefully address any question that a new employee may have.
My Qualifications for Writing the Proposed Manual
While it is true I may not be a current employee of Brookshire Brothers, none the less I have
previously worked at Brookshire Brothers for the previous two years and a half. During my time
at Brookshire Brothers I have seen many a times where the lack of proper training has affected
the stores performance. This affect the overall moral and performance of the employee. During
my time working at Brookshire Brothers I have seen the difference between employees that are
trained properly and those who arent, not only do the properly trained last longer but also
provide an overall better work performance.
