LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM 2013-2015

ACTIVITY REFLECTIVE SUMMARY

ACTIVITY: P
ACTIVITY TOPIC:

Stakeholder Meetings

PARTICIPANTS NAME: Chris Hainsworth

1. What were the significant learning points in this activity?

Terry Campus Business, Entrepreneurship, Hospitality Management Advisory Board
(10/28/14)
This advisory board was chaired by Lisa Strusowski, Business Chair, Terry Campus.
It was attended by approximately 30 attendees representing stakeholders who would
be hiring our graduates who majored in business, entrepreneurship and hospitality
management. The meeting was run very efficiently. An update was provided on
enrollment, retention and graduation strategies and other goings on at the college.
There was a brief presentation on the Blueprint for the Future. There was then a
period where information was solicited of the group on four questions related to
current and future needs from the programs. To gain this feedback in an expeditious
manner the group was broken into four subgroups who rotated to four stations and
provided suggestions for each question. The feedback was more robust than an
open conversation would have been and it was accomplished in about 20 minutes.
The main learning points for me in this activity were understanding how outside
stakeholders view the college and how they are given the opportunity to
communicate their current and future needs to us so that we can be responsive to
them.
Student Government Association (2/10/15)
I attended an SGA meeting as a co-advisor of the club. There were six students in
attendance, representing other clubs and the two SGA officers. There was
discussion about the upcoming ChocolateLovers 5K run and about fundraising
opportunities for the students clubs at an on campus event, the Odyssey of the
Mind. There was also discussion about making connections with students so that
they are aware of SGA meetings and activities. One of the learning points from this
meeting was that I saw how the SGA is a representative group of the students,
either through their association with student club leaders or on their own n
association of student clubs and their leaders. The SGA facilitates the connection

between the students and the the campus Administrative Council to give the
students a voice on campus.

Terry Campus Staff Senate (2/6/15)

There were a variety of topics discussed at this meeting. There was a request for a
donation to the Spring Exclamation made by a co-chair of the Spring Exclamation
committee. A request was made for Graduation volunteers. Fundraising ideas were
discussed and there was an Administrative Council update. The main learning point
for me was understanding how the campus staff are given a voice on the campus
Administrative Council through the Staff Senate and the activities that they are
involved in that support student success.

2. Which leadership characteristics was were enhanced or learned through this

activity?
(Leadership Characteristic 13 - Is sensitive to stakeholder needs, flexible and proactive.)
The leadership characteristic that was enhanced through this activity was number
thirteen is sensitive to stakeholder needs and is proactive. Soliciting and utilizing
information from our stakeholders to identify needs is the only way that we can
remain dynamic as an organization so that we can change with the community. This
is something that I see as an essential element of being able to meet our mission by
being responsive to the community.
