On Thursday students will enjoy and have

fun as they practice different Math
concepts learned in Year 1 (counting up to
100, addition, subtraction, measurement,
etc.) through games, fun activities, and
manipulatives).
To promote their love of learning Maths and
get them as interested as possible we
encourage them to create a math hat at
home and wear it to school on Thursday.

Students will review counting and keeping track of quantities; make a

representation of a set of data.
Work with two-to-one correspondence; counting by groups of 2 (e.g.: 2, 4, 6, 8)
Use data to solve a problem.
Readers and writers will continue studying poetry to compare and contrast
ordinary language vs poetic language. They will also contrast poems with
stories and learn how to create sentences with a poetical vocabulary.
Students will review and practice spelling and meaning of all sight words
learned.
They will be exposed to examples with magic/silent e at the end of words
(e.g. fine, tube, kite, rope, mane, etc.)

Year 1 students have only one snack per day. Please remember to supply a
healthy snack and water for your child.
School opens at 6:45 am. Lessons begin at 7:00. Students arriving after 7:20
need to get a late slip from the secretary. Dismissal is at 12:00 noon.
