A Long History of Diversity:
1. In a paragraph, explain how the early history [prior to 1000 AD] was highly
diversified.
There are a few reasons that make this area very diverse. One of those reasons is that it
made the Chinese art, politics, ethnic beliefs, and technology as advanced as it is today.
Another reason is that it spread the beliefs of Hinduism and Buddhism through the world.
And finally it helped keep the role of women equal.

1. How

was the area of Southeast Asia organized and governed during their early

history?
They did not have borders set up. However they had things called Mandalas. The Khmer
Empire was a powerful Mandala.

1. How

did this change from 1300-1800?

There were a lot of things that changed during this time. One of them being the fact that
a lot of areas gave themselves an identity.
Colonialism and its aftermath
1. What is colonialism?
Colonialism is the policy or practice acquiring full or partial political control over another
country occupying it with settlers and economically exploring it.
1. What was the only country in the region that wasnt a colony?
Saim otherwise known as Thailand

and explain the three ways colonialism changed Southeast Asia.

Colonialism allowed them to set up a centralized government. Another thing it allowed


them to do is forced the Europeans to produce things to support and benefit the economy.
It also helped with nationalism.

What changes came to Southeast Asia during WWII?
The leaders wanted independence for their nations.

was control of the area in Southeast Asia by Japan different than


European control?

They put themselves in leadership roles. This was very helpful to other nations in the
surrounding area.

explain this statement with examples.
They went through a war unlike any previous nation.

The people of the region had to use the agriculture to get their money

Association of Southeast Asian Nations. It helped the countries grow rapidly.

There had been a lot of religions started in the area like Buddhism and Hinduism.

To me it seems like there was a lot of cultural diversity bac at that time. Due to the religious
coverings it seems that they all however are of the same religion

Now that people want to travel there they have started building hotels and roads.

There are about 1,100 languages in that area

Urban growth is causing a lot of the people to move to the cities which is damaging to the
culture.
