5th period: 1:10--2:20
Principles of Finance. Leadership development will be provided through FBLA.
Principles of Finance gives students a thorough introduction to the concepts, tools, and institutions
of finance and serves as a foundation for the core courses offered by the Academy of Finance.
Principles of Finance begins with the basics of financial literacy and the powers, protections, and
responsibilities for both the consumer and businesses. Students also explore specific topics of
importance in todays world of finance, budgeting, paychecks, benefits, and taxes. They research
how technological and international innovations have changed the financial services field.
As an integral part of the course, students also participate in an in-depth study of a particular
finance topic. Students use a project-based learning approach to become personal finance experts
and lead a school-wide exhibition on issues critical to financial literacy. Working in groups of
three or four, students choose a topic to investigate and examine their topic from various
perspectives, including its importance to an individuals understanding of finance as well as its
relevance to the finance industry and society. This course will require professional interaction and
proper etiquette at all times.

Classroom Procedures

CLASS PROCEDURES

Entering the classroom Please come in quietly

before the bell rings. Turn in any homework assigned in
the Homework tray. Go to your assigned seat or the
group that I assign to you. Your sponge activity will be on
the board/overhead and you should be ready to begin
when the bell rings.

If you are not in the room when the bell rings, you
will be swept by administration. If you are tardy but
have a pass, turn it in on my desk and sit down. It is not
necessary to make a scene if you are tardy.

All homework must be turned in to the appropriate

tray at the front of the room. Homework should
always have the proper heading on top. Homework will
almost always be turned in at beginning of class. All
homework must be turned in before the bell rings. If
homework is not completed, fill out a yellow sheet and
leave it in the homework tray.

If you do not have your homework, you have 24 hours to

get your homework to me.

Leaving the classroom You will be given 2 hall passes

per six weeks. You may use them to go to the restroom,
locker, etc. If you do not have your hall pass, you do not
have permission to leave the classroom. Ms Kent may

turn down your request to use a pass. If you walk out

its an automatic referral. No passes the first and last 10
minutes of class.

End of period dismissal I dismiss you, not the

bell. You must be in your assigned seat if you want to
leave when the bell rings. If not we will wait until
everyone is. Do not ask to leave early to go to your
locker, see your counselor, etc. (See Leaving the
Classroom).

Asking a question Wait for an appropriate break in

the lesson and then raise your hand. If I do not call on
you immediately, please be patient.

Listening to and responding to questions from the

teacher If, during the course of the lesson, you know
the answer to a question, raise your hand and wait to be
called on.

Be prepared You should always be prepared for class

by having paper and a writing utensil.

If you need a pencil or paper, it is available for your

use in the student supply center. However, if you are
using a great deal of paper and pencil, and not returning
the pencils on a regular basis, you may be charged for it.
You can buy a pencil or pen for 10 cents or with rewards
tokens that you have received. You may borrow a pencil
or pen for the class period with collateral (cell phone,
wallet, key, etc). You will get your collateral back for the
returned pen/pencil. Please note that constant need of
supplies means you are breaking one of our rules:
respect the classroom, materials, and supplies and there
will be consequences for this.

Sharpening your pencil You may do so QUIETLY

before the bell rings or during a break in the lesson.

Turning in Assignments - Tests, quizzes, and

assignments are put directly in the designated baskets
after I call for them. Do not turn in a paper to someone
else, or place it on my desk, assuming that I will get it.

Returned Papers Keep all papers that I have returned

to you in your binder.

When completing assignments Give your work the

respect that you would like me to give it. Remember,

professionals take pride in their work. If you turn in

messy, illegible work, it will reflect your grade. If I cannot
read it, I cannot grade it. If needed, type it up.

When someone knocks or the office calls Remain

silently in your seats. I am the only one who needs to
respond.

If you have finished your work early You are not to

talk or disrupt other people. Check your MATS folder. If
you are behind on standards, your only option is to work
on getting caught up. With permission, you may work on
another class assignment, or read. Do not think that you
may socialize. This will disrupt others work.

Sleeping in class DO NOT ATTEMPT IT! If you are

sick, call home and arrange to be picked up. Otherwise,
keep your head off the desk, out of your hands, and your
eyes open. If your eyes are closed, I will assume you
need to stand by your desk to stay awake.

When you need help or a conference Stay a

moment after class and we will arrange a time for us to
meet and work on the problem. If it appears that you will
be late for your next class I will call or write you a note.
PLEASE do not hesitate to ask for help or clarification it
is my job and duty to help you learn.

Pink Slips, progress reports, etc. Place them in the

tray on my desk for me to sign BEFORE THE BELL RINGS
and I will do so before the end of class. It is your
responsibility to remember to pick these items up upon
leaving class.

Cell Phones refer to Doss School Policy on

electronic devices and cell phones. If I have
identified it as a "Green Zone," you may use your cell
phones or electronic device FOR INSTRUCTIONAL
PURPOSES ONLY. If you are using it for other reasons, you
will receive 5 warnings before a referral is written. If I
have identified it as a "Red Zone," you may not have your
electronic device out. Please put away in pocket or
backpack.

Food or drinks Please eat any breakfast, lunch or

snacks before entering the classroom. Dispose of all
leftover items before entering. You may ONLY have
bottled water in my room.

Assigned Seats You will have assigned seats or

groups. If you need to sit up front for a reason that is
justified, please let me know.

When you are absent from class It is YOUR

responsibility to make up your work within the required
number of days (see your agenda for the make-up work
policy). Check the Absent Binder, which can be found in
the front of the classroom at the Student Center. Look for
the day you were absent and make note of any missed
notes, homework and activities. If you missed any
handouts or worksheets, they will be in the pocket divider
with your class name on it. Dont forget to copy any
missed notes from another student.

Teachers time to speak When I hold my hand up, it is

my time to speak. All students are expected to turn and
face me with your mouths closed.

Teachers space/Student Space-You will find the

majority of space is for you, the student! However, I do
not want you to go behind the projector table unless you
are teaching! Teacher equipment and desk is off limits
unless you are presenting!

If you disagree with the materials or class

procedures I am willing to listen to concerns about this
class. However, class time is not the time to discuss it.
You may see me after class/school or if you feel more
comfortable, you may write me a short note sharing your
thoughts.
