Nano-material product
assignment
PART 1
Existing product that uses nanotechnology:
Double core Tennis balls is the existing product i chose for this product
assignment.

Nano material used:

The nano material used in Doble core Tennis balls is Nano-particles of clay.

How nanotechnology helps the product work:

Scientists have created a coating of nano-particles of clay which helps
the ball maintain its bounce and doesnt have to be replaced as often. The
coating of nano-particles of clay does not allow air to escape from the core
of the ball.

How the product is made:

However this link is just a video on youtube of how tennis balls are made.
It doesnt say anything about nanotechnology being included. So i dont
think that all tennis balls are made with nano-particles. As my educated
guess, i believe that the double core tennis balls are made from a
synthetic mixture of rubber and cut into small pieces called slugs. Each
slug makes half of a tennis ball. The slugs are then turned into a
cylindrical shape. Then when two slugs are joint together, they create the
inner core of the tennis ball. After this, i believe that the core of the tennis
ball is coated in nano-particles of clay to create the double core.
Then the ball is covered in felt.

How the product might have potential for further development,

or be modified for future use- The modification must relate to
the nanotechnology element(s) and could lead to:
- Improvement to the current design.

- Use of a similar product for another purpose

Tennis balls have come a long way from being made out of cloth strips,
which were stitched together with thread. They are now made of rubber
and covered in felt. If i were to change the tennis ball, i would maybe find
a way to make it lighter.

Suitability..
The degree to which the source
provides helpful information,
suitable for your purpose .Is it
recent?

Well the site is all about nanotechnology. I

definitely thought it was a suitable website to
use for this type of information.

Accuracy..
The degree to which the facts
presented are logical and fit with
other credible sources

Bias..

Not applicable to this site

Refers to a prejudiced or partial

viewpoint that would affect
someone's interpretation of the
topic or related issues.

Credibility..
The trustworthiness (e.g.
credentials, education,
experience) of the source.

To me, a trustworthy site is one that normally ends in .org or .gov.

This site doesnt end in any of those. It just ends with randome
letters. However this site still seems trustworthy in its appearance. It
looks sophisticated enough to seem believable. Another main thing it
doesnt have to make it seem fake, is advertisements.Tor
