will use standard safety practices for all classroom laboratory and field
investigations. SCSh3. Students will identify and investigate problems
scientifically. SCSh4. Students will use tools and instruments for
observing, measuring, and manipulating scientific equipment and

Describe how you would Online Project/Collaboration Site/Publishing Opportunity
in your classroom: This activity would best be introduced in the classroom
when talking about physical changes and/or the properties of liquids and
gases.
What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity
in a classroom? Students would utilize computers and the internet in
order to post their data and converse with other participants.
Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience
(note: all of them may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you
are reaching a high LoTi Level.):
a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom
and often beyond their school: Students are performing
experiments, posting their data and subsequently
communicating with mentors, peers and near-peers on the
project website.
b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting original
data and or producing original products as a result of engaging in the
project): Students are collecting original data by performing
the experiment individually.
c. Higher-order thinking: Students are demonstrating higher-order
thinking by completing the experiment, thinking about their
results, communicating their results and then further
analyzing and discussing scientific concepts with peers and
mentors.
d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care
about their product: Students will publish and share their
research with the study. This will enable the group to
continue to define and analyze the factors that affect boiling

What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and
Why? This represents a LoTi level of six because students publish their
results and communicate with an expert or mentor who is outside of the
classroom.
How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with
your districts Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies? Students could use
a nickname when posting on the project website. Students would be
educated to never give their full name and/or identify specific details
about the school location.
