Title: Identifying Form
Context: Some grammar points in Grammar A class
Description of Artifact:
This form is from Grammar A class and covers 10 forms of grammar point. Below
each form there are 3 examples to represent usage. For example, the second one is
Present Perfect Progressive. There are 3 sentences below this form as examples to
indicate the usage. In this section, students need to read the three sentences and figure
out the common points in those sentences. After that, students need to think about the
form of Present Perfect Progressive. Then they need to fill in the blank has/have +
been + -ing. When students want to use Present Perfect Progressive, they need to
follow the form that they fill in the blank. Students can work with peers or
individually. Teacher gives them 10-15 minutes to complete the worksheet. Next,
teacher checks the patterns form and explains each one to students to make sure all of
the students correct.

New Ideas, information, or awareness from this artifact:

This artifact focused on grammar points and covered almost all of the high
frequency grammar points. I want to adopt this form into my future classes, because it
systematically indicates the high frequency grammar usage. Moreover, through
inductive approach that Neuman (2003, p.51) affirms inductive research to begin
with detailed observations of the world, which moves towards more abstract

generalisations and ideas. Also, it allows students to think by themselves. They can
remember the knowledge for a long time. I can adopt this form into other usage with
few changes. For example, after students fill in the blank, I will ask students to make
an example sentence by using the form, which reinforced the knowledge that they
learned.

Reflection on how this will impact your approach to teaching and learning:
I prefer to use inductive approach to teach students, because it connect to
bottom-up strategy Alexandridis (2006) mentioned. He believes, inductive
approach focuses on understanding dynamics, robustness, emergence, resilience,
focuses on individual behavior, constructing alterative futures. Within bottom-up
strategy, I can easily active students schema and make connection with their
previous knowledge. Thus, my students will have easy time in learning by using
bottom-up strategy. After encouraged my students to think by themselves, they will
feel participated in the class. As a teacher I have to find ways of helping my students
develop a positive view of me and of their class so that they have positive
expectations for me and my lessons.
I will use this worksheet as an helping tool to recall the knowledge that I have
taught in previous classes. If I need to teach reading and grammar section
simultaneously, I will ask my students to figure out the same pattern in the article that
I provided to them. At that point, I will ask my students to make their own
Identifying Form worksheet.
