Slow Food is a global, grassroots organization, founded in 1989 to prevent the

disappearance of local food cultures and traditions, to avoid the rise of fast life and to
interest people in the food they eat, where it comes from and how their food choices
affect the world around us.
Slow Food believes food is tied to many other aspects of life, including culture,
politics, agriculture and the environment.
This organization envisions a world in which all people can access and enjoy food
that is good for them, good for those who grow it.
It teaches you the pleasure of food and how to make good, clean and fair choices
through food.
GOOD: quality, flavorsome and healthy food
CLEAN: production that does not harm the environment
FAIR: accessible prices for consumers and fair conditions and pay for producers

Slow Food was started by Carlo Petrini and a group of activists in Italy in the 1980s
with the initial aim to defend regional traditions, good food, gastronomic pleasure
and a slow pace of life. In over two decades of history, Slow Food represents a global
movement involving thousands of projects and millions of people in over 160
countries.
Slow Food works around the world to protect food biodiversity, build links between
producers and consumers, and raise awareness of some of the most pressing topics
affecting our food system.
