Second, Id like to mention that I observed a class from Improve Oral Frequency
(IOF) taught by Karen Lindwall. She used her own theory that I learned in TESOL
Components B class, which is Simple Six. The whole class was followed by this
method. She read the directions to students to clear up what she wanted students to
do. Then she provided a model to students to demonstrate the activities that she
wanted students to do by the following section. After that she made comprehension
check with students to confirm that all the students understood what they were going
to do by saying yes/no questions. Next, she gave students enough time to complete the
activities. She walked around to participate in students discussion and gave some
positive feedback. In the end, she gathered some common mistake that students made,
and wrote on the board to explain the correct way in class. I think Simple Six is an
effective approach in student-centered class and communicative language teaching
class.
The last thing that I want to thank is feedback from mini lesson delivering section. I
can criticize and implement the teaching principles that I learned. In reading
methodology class, since we had mini lesson delivering for every weeks, I could
apply different teaching methods. From my classmates and teacher feedback, I needed
to put more attention on time control. I needed to estimate presentation time and
production time. In the end of the lesson, I completed a good lesson delivering by
revising and accepting feedback.
In a nutshell, I am still working on my goals that I set in the every beginning. During
this one year learning period, I really appreciate TESOL program that I gained a
variety of teaching principles and wonderful teaching experiences. I am confidently
saying that I am prepared to sail with the wind, and not fight against it, teaching can
take me on wonderful adventures, and I can end up in the most magical places.
