Self Introduction

I am Yingrui Yang, from China. I graduated in 2014 from Yunnan University. My

major is Teaching Chinese as Second Language, but I dont have teaching experience,
because my study focused on theory. However, I had an observation experience in an
English school for a month. It was short time, but I saw how to teach children in fun
way.
When I was sophomore, I had an opportunity to take IELTS exam. At that time,
it was so hard to me to get score of 6. To help improve my score, I met my English
teacher, Eva Yuan, who barely graduated from Leeds University in Britain. I admired
her for her knowledge and personality. I had ever seen such a teacher like her. She
was a warm person, which means she cared about me not only for academics, but also
for my daily life. She taught me how to face a difficult situation, not be afraid of
frustration, and have a positive attitude. In my former life, Id never had a teacher like
her, because in my country we have a huge classes, which means almost 60 students
are sitting in one room. Nobody cared about me and having many students made one
teacher frustrated. Eva Yuan, who really touched my heart, is why I want to be a
perfect teacher.
During IELTS learning period, I got an opportunity to go abroad to study. My
university offered a study program to go to UCR Extension for one quarter. So I came
with my dream to be a teacher. There were totally different teaching methods in the
class. I was shocked at that time by how teachers use a attractive ways to teach
students, instead of having silent classes. Teachers were charming and students were

active in class. They were like friends. If students had a question, they just needed to
ask the teacher in the class. I enjoyed classes, and I gained some elements for how to
be a good teacher.
After that quarter, I went back to my university and passed the language test, and
I applied TESOL program and came back to UCR Extension, because I compared
TESOL programs in US universities, UCR Extension has the best and most effective
curriculum. I was familiar with it and had a strong inclination to be here.
In the future, I would like to work in a language school as an English teacher.
Hopefully, the students are preparing to get into university overseas. Since I have
studied in America for a long time, I can teach them some academic skills and
communication skills. Also, I can give them some advice about living aboard. I want
to be a teacher who cares about students themselves, not only test scores, but also
mental health.
Additionally, I want to help students who are confused in English learning. I also
want to change the stereotypes between teacher and student in China. I dislike silent
classes, they make student bored and afraid of the teacher. I want to use what I learned
to help English learners in the future.
