Introduction

Fig1:cable car

A cable car is any of a variety of transportation systems

relying on cables to pull vehicles along or lower them
at a steady rate.

Contd

The cable car vehicles are motor-less and

engine-less pulled by cable that is rotated by
motor off-board.
The project aims is to demonstrate the
automation of a cable car system using
Programming Logic Controller.
The system consists of automatic opening and
closing of cable car doors by use of IR
sensors.

The system also consists of a passenger
counting system for single trip and also the
total passenger count based on an IR sensor .
The PLC is used to control the Motors for door
opening and closing as well as movement and
stoppage of cable car system.

Limitations:
Mechanical opening and closing of doors of
cabin.
Lack of evenly distribution of load in the
cabins.
Overloading in cabins as there is no counting
of boarders.
Time independent opening and closing of
doors of cabin.

Circuit Components
1. IR Sensors:
. IR Sensors work by using a specific light sensor to
detect a select light wavelength in the Infra-Red (IR)
spectrum.

FUTURE SCOPE
The cable system car system can be made fully
automated and safe by including weight
measurement in the cable car using load cells.
Transistor an receiver can be used for
communication between PLC and IR sensor.
