Participants will be able to create a finished vessel that represents a wish, hope or prayer that is important to them, helping with memory recall and self-expression. Participants have completed four lessons prior, in which they have done materials exploration, been introduced to the theme and began armature building.

Date: 11-21-2015 Activity: Sculpture Project; Plaster Part 2/Decorating Materials and Resources: Plastr Craft, paint, feathers, materials from home, brushes, palettes, Mod Podge Objective: Through the manipulation of Plastr Craft (smoothing, shaping, etc) and their previously constructed armature, participants will be able to create a finished vessel that represents a wish, hope or prayer that is important to them, helping with memory recall and self-expression. Prior Learning/Lessons in Unit: 1. Introduction to the group/introduction to the materials 2. Introduction of the theme/beginning armature? 3. Armature building 4. Armature finishing/Introduction to Plastr Craft Association (Demonstration-Lecture): The participants have completed four lessons prior, in which they have done materials exploration, been introduced to the theme and began armature building. They have finished their armature and are continuing the sculpting process. How do you think this material will help you create your vision? What have you learned about this material? Visualization (Demonstration-Lecture): There will be a minor demo, where we show participants how to cut the strips of Plastr Craft (if necessary) and then how wet and smooth them onto their sculpture. We will again reference our sculpture examples, and participants will come together in small groups again to discuss how best to use Plastr Craft. How does this material react? Do you feel comfortable with the material? Do you have any ideas on how to utilize this material better? How easy are you finding the material to work with? If not, are there any ways to make it easier to use? Recap: We have talked about the theme and how we can create a sculpture that fits that theme. We have talked about how to cover our armature with Plastr Craft. Transition (Students at Work): Participants will begin to work independently, but will be given the choice to remain in small groups/pairs while working. How many layers should you do? What kind of things should you keep in mind while youre sculpting? How do you plan on integrating your own materials into the sculpture Are you items from home for the decorating phase instead? How do you want to decorate your finished sculpture? Closure (Critique): Have you learned anything new about the materials now that youve worked with them? Did you observe any other techniques that you might want to try? Do you have anything about your project (or someone elses) that youd like to reflect on?
