Project Overview
The Dallas Police Department receives 20,000 calls regarding domestic
violence each year, yet there are fewer than 150 safe shelter beds available
each night. As a community, the Dallas area can contribute towards efforts
to help the women and children whom need food, clothing, and/or a safe
haven to retreat to in their time of need. Our objective is to team up with
Nike and the Dallas community in order to aid the Genesis Womans Shelter
through normal donations, a percentage of Nike Fuel-band sales, and various
contributions of clothing by Nike based on steps tracked by the Nike Fuelband in the months January through May.

Background

Even with donations made every day to their shelter, Genesis Womens
Shelter still needs a large amount of help with the amount of Dallas area
women and children in need. The shelter needs donations of new items,
gently used items, or money to buy necessities for these women such as bus
tickets, medicine, food, therapy, diapers, electricity, counseling, etc. With
help from Nike, the Dallas community can make a huge impact by
purchasing a fuel band, exercising with said Fuel-band, or through normal
donations of food, clothing, and money (through the Genesis Outreach
website, or the Nike-Genesis app).

Goals and Objectives

Our goal is to drastically improve the donations given to Genesis
Womens Shelter as well as raise awareness for the problem of domestic
abuse we face as a nation. Another goal of ours is to raise enough money so
Genesis can increase the number of women and children they house each
year. A supplemental objective for this project is to join together as a local
community in order to help a great cause and attempt to make domestic
violence a thing of the past.

Project Details
Nike wants to help these women by donating clothes provided by the
effort of the community. Together, both Nike, and the people of Dallas area
will start moving and giving. Every month, for five months, Nike will donate a
different article of clothing to the Genesis Women's Shelter based on how
much the people of the community walk using their fuel band. Additionally,
Nike will also be donating a percentage of their sales.
The Months and corresponding article of clothing and step requirements are
as follows:
January- socks- pair added every 250 steps
February- undergarments - one added every 250 steps
March- shorts - one added every 500 steps
pants- one pair added every 1000 steps
April- shirts- one added every 500 steps

May- shoes- one pair added every 2000 steps

Sponsor
We chose Nike Inc. to be our sponsor for
this event. Nike Inc. is currently involved in
many charitable donations as well as
programs donating clothes to those that are
unfortunate. They have a donation called Giving a Swoosh, which donates
old/used Nike products to those that are unfortunate. We will also have a
signed Letter of Understanding from Nike Inc. to get their commitment in
writing (see Appendix One). The reasoning for choosing Nike Inc. as our
sponsor is because that it already has an enormous worldwide presence, so
Nike Inc. would be ideal for this donation program in Dallas and with enough
publicity and advertisement we could take it national.

Student Organization
The University of Texas at Dallas does not currently have an
organization or program that donates articles of clothing to those who are
unfortunate. We are hoping with the spark of our Nike event, there will be an
excitement for donating and helping those who cannot afford clothing for
themselves or their families.

Womens Shelter is a
unique charitable group
which strives to end the
epidemic of domestic
violence against women
and children by stopping individual victimization and reducing the

devastating impact of family violence through safety, shelter and expert

services to battered women and their children. They are committed to
preventing violence by raising the level of community awareness regarding
the pervasiveness and effects of domestic violence. Because of the
uniqueness and importance behind their mission, we feel that the Genesis
Womens Shelter would be a great charity to help raise funds for.

Event Details

customer who has purchased the band will get a request to participate in the
app and a contract with all of the specifications they should agree with
before joining the donation. Each participant will be assigned a random
number, to ensure all information being tracked will be anonymous. This
donation activity will help the women in need and will give the community an
incentive to live a healthy lifestyle and get moving. They will not only be
helping themselves but they will be giving back to the community. There will
be no specific facilities needed since most of the donating will be done
through the application on each of the walker's mobile phone. The only
facility necessary will be the shipping facility that will be provided by Nike.
20% of Fuel Band sale from January to May will go to Genesis. In the month
of May, 10% of all Dallas Nike sales will go to charity. The amount of steps
taken will be tracked with the Fuel-band on the Nike application. Every
customer who has purchased the band will get a request to participate in the
app and a contract with all of the specifications they should agree with
before joining the donation. Each donator will be assigned a random number
so that all of the information being tracked will be anonymous. The donations
will help the women in need and will give the community an incentive to live
a healthy lifestyle and get moving. There will be no specific facilities needed

Evaluation
There will be a minimum of two meetings every month. The first meeting will
be at the begging of each month; during this meeting the team will discuss
the goals, prepare for the launch of the new clothing product, as well as form
unique advertising campaigns for the donated merchandise. The second
meeting will be at the end of the month / donation period. During this
meeting the team will process the fuel-band app, in order to allocate the
number of clothing to be donated to Genesis Womans Shelter. We will
evaluate user performance, on a week-to-week basis. If the majority of users,
of the fuel-band app are unable to meet required steps to donate, the team
will revise the number of steps to achieve a donation. The IT team will need
to monitor the app during the day time to ensure participants statistics are
properly recorded. There is a goal of selling 1,000 fuel-bands, if this goal is
reached the minimum donation we will be able to provide is $16,000.

Future Goals
Our goal will be to have this as a part of a nationwide campaign held by NIKE
every year involving numerous charities that would benefit from the event.
NIKE is an international brand, known and worn by many. Therefore there is
potential in having NIKE sponsored athletic teams participate in the fuelband charity event, which would provide great exposure as well as new
participants to increase the total number of merchandise donated to those in
need.

LETTER OF INTENT

Dear Ms. Best,
The purpose of this letter of intent is to summarize the preliminary understandings
between Nike and Genesis Womens Shelter Outreach with respect to the following
terms and conditions a formal agreement would draw upon.
1. Term. The initial term of agreement will be for a period of five months from
January 2016 to May 2016.
2. Contributions. During the event, Nike will donate 20% of sales of the fuel band to
the Genesis Womens Shelter outreach. Nike will also donate the following articles of
clothing for each month contingent on the total number of steps the participants
take while using the Fuel Band:
January: 1 pair of socks added after every 250 steps.
February: 1 undergarment added after every 500 steps.
March: 1 pair of shorts added after every 500 steps and 1 pair of pants added after
every 1000 steps.
April: 1 shirt added after every 500 steps.
May: 1 pair of shoes added after every 2000 steps and 10% of all Dallas Nike sales
will be donated to the Genesis Womens Shelter Outreach.
3. Customer Privacy. The amount of steps taken will be tracked with the fuel band
on the Nike application. Every customer who has purchased the band will get a
request to participate in the app and a contract with all of the specifications they
should agree with before joining the donation. A unique app identification number
will be given to each of the participants to let them remain anonymous and to allow
the number of steps each participant takes to be tracked during the event.
It is understood that these agreements represent the intention of the Genesis
Women's Shelter Outreach and their commitment to support women in need.
