Business and Computer Science Philosophy

Business and Computer Science programs must serve the total school population through a relevant curriculum oriented toward providing career direction, a sound foundation for advanced study and the development of employability and job skills. A quality business program is competency-based; objectives give the direction necessary to meet
the needs of students and business. Performance objectives based on the competencies students need to be successful in their business careers and in their personal lives are the heart of a competency-based business program. Courses should be offered in a sequence that leads to vocational competence. In addition, a quality program must be
technology based. While programs in the past emphasized the typewriter, programs of today must be computer-based. Historically, business and computer science programs in Georgia and the United States have consistently provided education about business and education for business occupations. Technology has caused some philosophical
shifts in education from single learning to multiple learning, rigidity to flexibility, isolated content to interrelated content, memorized responses to problem awareness, national dimensions to international proportions, one career to multiple career preparations and job-specific skills to broad-based transferable skills. Business and Computer Science
in Georgia recognizes these new emphases in programmatic modifications and is prepared to meet the needs of the rapidly changing work force.
