Birth Second Grade Teacher

To obtain a license to teach Early Childhood (birth through second grade) a


person must first complete the required testing, Praxis Core Academic Skills
for Educators or Praxis Content Area Test. Second, hold a bachelors degree or
graduate degree from an accredited college or university and must have
completed 3 semester hours of credit in a course of study regarding parental
involvement and family engagement. Third, have completed a program of
preparation to teach people that is approved by the board or hold a license to
teach people that was issued by another state and approved by commission.
Fourth, have experience teaching pupils under six years of age that consists
of: 8 student teaching hours, 1 year of experience teaching pupils in a
program of early childhood eduation conducted by a public school, agency or
licensed private school or equivalent field experience. Fifth, completed 6
hours of courses in early childhood education consisting of early childhood
curriculum, emergent language and literacy or play theory. Sixth, you must
complete 35 hours of courses in early childhood education for children who
are developing typically and atypically. Seventh, 12 hours in early childhood
curriculum and program implementation.

Elementary Subjects K-8


Teacher

To become an Elementary school teacher


you have to have a license. You may be
granted a license after you have obtained a
bachelors degree after completing a
program for elementary school teaching.
These courses include student teaching,
nine semester hours in the teaching of
reading and nine semester hours in
elementary methods as just the minimum
requirements.

Substitute Teacher

To qualify for a license to substitute teach in


Nevada for grades kindergarten through
twelfth you must be a citizen of united
states or be a lawful permanent resident of
the United States with a valid Permanent
Resident Card. Also you must have earned a
minimum of sixty semester credits or have
an associates degree or higher from a
regionally accredited college or university
as reflected on an offical transcript.

Special Education (Exceptional


students) Teacher

To receive an endorsement to teach in a program of


GATE students a person must hold a license for the level
of education in which the program is offered and have 2
years of experience as a teacher in schools approved by
the department. Also a person must have completed 12
semester hours of credit from an accredited college or
university to include 3 semester hours in each of these
areas: characteristics and needs of gifted and talented
pupils, assessment of gifted and talented pupils and
programs for such pupils, curriculum in content areas for
gifted and talented pupils and methodology and
strategies for teaching gifted and talented pupils.

Reading Specialist

To receive an endorsement to teach reading a


person must hold a bachelors degree. Also, hold
a valid elementary, middle school or junior high,
secondary or special teaching license, excluding
Business and industry. Lastly, a person must
have at least 16 credits in reading that includes
foundations of reading, elementary methods
and materials, secondary methods and
materials, diagnosis of reading disabilities and a
practicum in reading remediation.

Art Specialist

To receive an endorsement to teach art a person


must complete the Praxis Core Academic Skills
for Educators, Principles of Learning and
Teaching k-6 or 7-12 and Praxis Content Area
Test. Also, hold a bachelors degree and have
completed 3 semester credits in a course of
study regarding parental involvement and
family engagement. A person must also have
competed 22 semester credits of professional
education and 36 semester credits in the
principles of fine and applied arts.

Library/ Media Specialist


To

receive an endorsement as a school library media specialist


a person must have a valid elementary, middle or junior high
school, secondary or special teaching license. Secondly, have
completed a program for school library media specialists which
has been approved by the Board or a regional accrediting
association or hold a maters or more advanced degree in
library science. Lastly, a person must complete 21 semester
credits in organization and administration of a school library,
the cataloging and classification of materials for a library,
reference, bibliography and information skills, the use and
selection of educational media for a library, childrens and
young adults literature, computers in the library and a
supervised practicum in an elementary, middle or junior high
school, or a secondary school library

Physical Education Specialist

To receive an endorsement to teach physical


education a person must complete Praxis Core
Academic Skills for Educators and Praxis Content
Area Test. A person must hold a bachelors degree.
Also have completed 3 semester credits in a course
of study regarding parental involvement and family
engagement and an approved program of
preparation for teaching physical education in
kindergarten through twelfth grade or have 42
credits which include coursework more specific to
physical education and 22 credits in professional
education.

Music Specialist

To receive an endorsement to teach music a


person must complete the Praxis Core Academic
Skills for Educators, Principles of Learning and
Teaching k-6 or 7-12 and Praxis Content Area Test.
A person must hold a bachelors degree and
completed 3 credits in a course of study regarding
parental involvement and family engagement.
Third, a person must have completed a program
for teaching music approved by the Board or 22
credits of professional education and 36 credits in
the foundations of music.

Educational Computer Strategist


(Computer Applications)

To receive an endorsement to teach computer


applications a person must hold an elementary,
middle or junior high, secondary or special
license. Also that person must have completed
a program which has been approved by the
Board for teaching computer based applications
or have 12 credits which include educational
issues relating to computers and methods for
teaching the integration of technology which
curriculum and methods for teaching computer
applications or instruction.

School Counselor

To receive an endorsement as a school counselor a


person must complete the Praxis Core Academic Skills for
Educators and Praxis Content Area Test. They must
complete 3 credits in a course regarding parental
involvement and family engagement. Also hold a
masters or more advanced dree in school counseling or
hold a specialty credential as a National Certified School
Counselor issued by the National Board for Certified
Counselors or masters or more advanced degree with a
major in counseling conferred or masters or more
advanced degree conferred and have at least 2 years
teaching experience or at least 2 years of school
counselling experience.

School Psychologist
To

receive an endorsement as a school


psychologist a person must complete 3 credits in
a course regarding parental involvement and
family engagement and hold a certificate as a
Nationally Certified School Psychologist. Or a
person must hold a graduate degree with
preparation in school psychology and earned 60
semester graduate credits. Lastly, a person
looking to be a school psychologist must have
completed practicum and minimum of 1000 hour
internship in school psychology.

School Administrator

To receive an endorsement as an administrator of a


school a person must hold a valid elementary,
middle or junior high school, secondary teaching
license and hold a masters degree. Also that person
must have completed 3 years of teaching experience
in accredited K-12 schools and have completed 24
semester hours of graduate courses in the
administration of a school. Lastly, have completed
an additional 12 semester hours of graduate courses
which could include other courses considered to be
part of an administrative program for educators.
