"In this approach the language arts support one another and are connected through use of
Uterature as well as informative text. Thus this approach is based on the premise that learning
{s.a series of connections” (Learning to Read, p. 45). As a teacher, | need to be able to teach
my students and show them that all subjects are important and interconnected.
Ido Stakes testing is fair. | want all of my students to succeed, ana
knowing that the only measure | have to test their intelligence is with standardized rdized testing 3
unsettling. Not all students learn the same way or have scholastic intelligence. “Expecting alt
students at the same chronological age level to perform the same way and have the same skitls

are reading. At the same time, I do not want them to be reading fictional fairytales all the
time. | will have every other day in my classroom be pick your awn reading book day for SSR,
and the other days be educational reading, so that my students can learn as well as have fun
while reading.
| will need to communicate to the parents about their student's daily/weekly progress, have
Parent/teacher conferences, written summaries of student achievement of the standards, and
emails and phone calls (RICA, p. 23). This ensures that the parents and | are.on the same page
regarding their students.
