Steve Jobs

It was a beautiful day near the bay. It was February 24, 1955, Steve Jobs was born. Steve
was abandoned by his parents when he was just born. Steve was adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs.
Paul had taught Steve how to assemble electronics, and Steve fell in love. In high school, he met
his future partner, Steve Wozniak. After he graduated, Steve attended Reed College, in Portland.
Jobs was lost in college and didnt know what his purpose was. He dropped out, and felt free. He
dropped in on the creative classes on campus.
In 1974, his work in technology began. He was a video game designer for the famous
game company, Atari. Atari frustrated him. He wanted to put his own artistic touch on the games.
Atari wouldnt let him. Eventually, Jobs lost his temper and quit the job. Looking for peace, he
traveled to India. Messing with a lot of drugs, he had his mind to himself.
In 1976, Jobs and Wozniak, started the infamous Apple Inc. Jobs was living at his
parents house at the time. The duo started Apple in the garage of the house. They had to make
sacrifices to make Apple survive. Jobs sold his Volkswagen bus, and Wozniak sold his cool
scientific calculator. Jobs and Wozniak are credited for changing the computer industry.
When the Apple 1 came out, Apples first generation computer, the units were selling for
$666.66. The company made $741,000 off the Apple 1. They used the money to create the Apple
2. The Apple 2 came out 3 years after the Apple 1 was released. The goal for Apple computers
was to be smaller, cheaper, and accessible for the every-day user. When the Apple 2 released,
sales skyrocketed. The sales increased by 700% compared to the Apple 1. The company made
$139 million off of the computer. According to Biography.com, In 1980, Apple Computer
became a publicly traded company, with a market value of $1.2 billion by the end of its very first
day of trading. Jobs looked to marketing expert John Sculley of Pepsi-Cola to take over the role

of CEO for Apple. (Biography.com Editors) After the great success of the Apple 2, the products
that followed, the people didnt appreciate, and were lead to be recalled. During this time, IBM
became popular again, and took the top spot on the computer mountain. After the slow decline of
Apple, board members slowly pushed Jobs out of a position.
After being pushed from Apple, Jobs decided to start another company. He founded an
new company called NeXT. NeXT created hardware and software. Jobs and his company, later
purchased an animation company from the famous, George Lucas. The company later became
Pixar Studios. Pixar is the famous company that made movies such as, Shrek, Toy Story, and
more. Steve believed in the company, and invested $50 million of his own money. The films
alone have brought Pixar $4 billion. In 2006, Disney merged with the company, making Jobs
their biggest investor.
After the 10 year departure from Apple, Jobs came back in the 1990s. A job came back
to a struggling Apple, and was trying to make Apple popular again. Apple put Jobs in charge of
the Macintosh. The product was very popular, and new Macintosh products are still being made
to this day. In the mid 2000s, Steve and co. released the iPhone. The iPhone was the first of its
kind. The iPhone led many other companies to model their creations after the original iPhone.
Without the invention of the iPhone, many other companies wouldnt be the same. Also in those
years, Apple released the iPad. The iPad was a portable tablet that was basically a bigger iPhone.
Yet again, companies modeled new devices after the new iPad.
Steve Jobs has made many contributions and inventions to the world today. The fortune
and fame didnt come from the instant they started. Jobs had to work, and overcome many
obstacles in the way. Steve Jobs will be forever remembered, and greatly appreciated forever.
