L-1-2: Demonstrate knowledge of human anatomy and physiology of

pediatric clients: cardiovascular system, central nervous system,
gastrointestinal system, genitourinary system, growth and
development stages, integumentary system, musculoskeletal system,
respiratory system.
I quite enjoyed learning about Eriksons stages of psychosocial
development. Although I had learned about it several years ago in a
psychology course, I did not realize just how applicable they are until
reading about them again in this course. I noticed myself applying
them to different people I know, speculating whether they had
successfully passed through the stages or which stage they were not
successful in. In addition, its been very interesting to relate Eriksons
theory to my 16 month-old niece as Ive watched her develop.
I learned how body systems are different in children than in adults,
and different developmental theories. It was meaningful because I
think it is important to understand that just because children may seem
like mini versions of adults, their body systems have certain unique
characteristics that set them apart from adult body systems. I
especially found learning about growth and development from infancy
to adolescence interesting.
Good From previous courses I had an understanding of how all body
systems function, but through the readings indicated in the course
curriculum I was able to learn how these systems differ in pediatric
patients. In addition, being able to relate some of the information to
real-life scenarios really helped to enhance my learning.

I am genuinely passionate about both science and nursing, and so it is

extremely important to me to have a firm understanding of anatomy
and physiology of all body systems to enhance my nursing care. I am
interested in working in several different settings in the hospital, and I
have no doubts that I will encounter pediatric patients many times
throughout my career, and this information learned will absolutely
guide my care.
