    donebyasurveyofavarietyofyoungadultsandteenagers.Includingagroupof
    1,037peoplewhowerefollowedfrombirthtoage38.Alsoincludingsomewho
    wereregularmarijuanasmokersandsomewhohaveneverseenitinperson.The
    factthattheyusedsuchavarietyofyoungpeopleshouldhelprepresenttheentire
    spectrumofyouth.Inthisstudytheyconcludedthatteenagersthatsmoke
    marijuanaonaregularbasis(onceaweek)aresubjectto
    cognitivedecline,poor
    attentionandmemory,anddecreasedIQ.In201431%ofyoungadultsclaimed
    theyhadusedmarijuanainthelastmonth.Marijuanauseinteensandyoung
    adultsisontherise,in1993apollwasdoneanditwasshown2.4%ofyoung
    peoplesmokedmarijuanaonadailybasis,butthatnumberhasgrowndramatically
    to6.5%basedonastudydonein2012.Thesenumberswillcontinuetogrowas
    recreationalmarijuanaisbecominglegalinmoreandmorestatesandthelegality
    ofmedicalmarijuanalowersteensawarenessoftheharmfulaffectsthedrugmay

    have.Thisstudy,tothedismayofteenseverywhere,showsthatthedrugcanbe
    addictiveandmayresultinneurocognitivedamage.Brainimagerystudieshave
    alsobeendoneonteensages1619whohaveincreasedtheamountofmarijuana
    theysmoke,revealingmajoreffectsonthebrain'sgraymatter,whichisassociated
    withintelligence.Therearemanyformsofmarijuana,some,evenlegal,thathave
    extremelyhighamountsofTHC,whichisthesubstanceresponsibleformanyof
    thepsychologicaleffectsofthedrug.StudiesshowthathighamountsofTHChave
    beenlinkedtoseveredepressionandanxiety.Justanothernegativesideeffectof
    smokingthisillegalsubstance.So,whyisthereevenadiscussionofmakingthis
    harmfuldruglegal?
    WhatIhavegottenoutofthispublicationisthatmarijuanaliterallymakes
    youdumber.KidsIknowwhosmokeonaregularbasisandwhohavetriedtoget
    metosmoke,claimthatitisnonaddictive,nondamaging.Clearlyitisnot.Ican
    notunderstandwhatmakesthisdrugsodesireabletoyoungpeople.Ialsocannot
    understandhowsomepoliticalfiguresthinkthedrugisfinetomakelegalfor
    recreationalpurposes.Thecountryhasenoughpeoplewhoareunintelligent,we
    arejustgoingtolegalizesomethingthatmakesyouevenmoreunintelligent?Why?
    Ihavehadmanyofmyfriendsexperimentwithmarijuanaandwhatthestudy
    showsisalmostalwaysaccurate.Droppingoutofcollege,takingecstasy,drinking
    largeamountsofalcohol,mixingcoughsyrupwithalcohol,acid,cocaine,theseare
    allthingsIhaveseenclosefriendsgothrough.Iabsolutelyhatethatmyfriends
    startedsmokingmarijuana.Maybetheywouldhavebeendoingsomeorevenallof

    thesewithoutfirststartingwithweed,butallIknowisthattheydidstartwith
    marijuana.Theyhadnevertouchedanotherdrugbeforetheytouchedmarijuana.It
    trulyisagatewaydrugthatlowersyourintelligence,leadstodepression,anxiety,
    becomesaddictive,lowersIQ,andweareonthevergeofmakingitlegal.Iask
    again,why?
