Poverty

Government Handling
The Government has launched many recent and many past programs to try to alleviate the aspect of poverty:

The U.S. government has released the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act.
This act helps to provide billions of dollars to rapidly rehouse
homeless citizens.
It also increases weatherization assistance by helping low income
families save on energy bills during harsh climate conditions.
This act also increases job funds for many who are unemployed
locally and nationally.

What Would Locke Say?

John Locke believed that the governments main purpose should be to protect
ones natural rights.
John Locke would greatly come to a solution of fighting poverty by
fully providing services for the people who are in need and
offering protections of peoples right to living, liberty and
property.

What Would Hobbes Say?

Thomas Hobbes fully believes in the kings power.
Hobbes would possibly support the ideals of poverty by helping these people
live in shelter. However, he would want something in return- the citizens rights
and authority.

What Would Rousseau Say?

Jean Rousseau believed that natural man was only motivated by love of self and
self preservation.
Rousseau would have both a good side and a bad side to helping ones in
poverty. He would feel as though if these citizens were fully supported with the
power to acquire a home and food- they would not want to help others in
need. These citizens would become motivated by greed and would therefore
only support ones self.

What Would Mills Say?

Mills would fully agree with John Locke.
Mills would want full equality in living class. If someone has a home he would
want to support the shelterless people with as much backbone he can to allow
for them to live and be fully protected.

What Would Marx Say?

Marx believes that everyone should be equal in social status.
Marx would want everyone- including shelterless- to be one the same level. He
would support the people in poverty by allowing them to work according to
their abilities and needs. However, after the helping these people move up,
he would want to fully dictate the power of how they follow the different rules
of society. He would have an inevitable law of living.

Personal Opinion
In my opinion, I feel as though everyone should be equal in the basis of social
class, wealth and living. I would fully agree with John Locke as I believe that
by resolving Poverty I can help the citizens by doing as much as I can to
house and feed them. I would fully protect these citizens rights and allow
them to work for what they want to work for and obtain.
