Major part of the project. At least 20 pages of

genuine making / practical developments in
sketchbook and two pieces out of your book.
You must discuss the work of others in your
sketchbook. In depth analysis of at least two
artists (however, you may mention several
more). Research should help you develop
your project. It may help in your choice of
idea, technique, media or subject matter.
When you discuss artists work consider the
context (relevant to the artist / work),
intentions of the artist and connections to
the development of your work.

Nadav Kander Analysis

Try to use a range of media particularly at

the beginning of a project where youre
working out which direction youre going in
and creating initial recordings.
Work should show an improvement in the
idea, control of media and technique as the
project progresses. Annotate key steps in the
development (what went well, even better if,
whats next)
Drawings from first hand observationpreferably throughout the project. Choice of
subject must be appropriate and relevant.
Project should / could also contain
photographs, ideas from imagination,
recordings (visual / sound) etc. The different
recordings, drawings etc should show
considerable skill and demonstrate
proficiency in a range of media.
An ambitious final piece that builds upon
everything produced previously.

Its important that you image analysis is not simply

a description of what we can see for ourselves. Are
there any wider issues regarding Kander that you
can use the image to illustrate? Eg. His technique,
how he feels when he sees the image printed. Watch
the clip again.
I would suggest that you watch the clip again so
that your analysis can be more in depth. He
mentions the wedding dress in the clip. Remember
NOT to just describe and definitely dont give your
interpretation without having researched a
photographers intentions in the first place.
You must include analysis of Horst. Divide your
research into three themes: Context, Intentions and
Technique. Please use the proforma
You need to describe the process and discuss WWW
and EBI
You need to make this clear that its your own,
personal ideas. Eg. For the self-directed part fo the
project I have chosen to look at.
Annotation of sets of obs needs to be in more depth.
WWW and EBI & whats next.
Instead of calling sets responses, call them set 1,
etc.
EBI- the annotation made links to Kanders themes.
Comment on the differences between the digital and
black and white images. Does one particular
approach convey a different mood to another?
