SAAKAR Printing recycling e-waste from Sri City
Saakar is a laser-toner cartridge re-manufacturing company in India, established by

Alstom Transport metro rail coaches made in Sri City SEZ near Tada, Nellore

Alstom Transport of France has setup a metro rail coach making facility at Sri City SEZ
near Tada in Nellore district. Alstom Transport bagged a Rs.1,431-crore order for 42
train sets from Chennai Metro Rail Ltd., (CMRL). Each train set comprises of four cars,
totalling 168 cars in all. A four-car train set can accommodate 1,276 passengers.

Alstom has spent about 30 million euro to build the facility on a 52 acre site in Sri City
SEZ. First few metro cars for Chennai Metro would be sourced from its transport hub at
Lapa in Brazil. First train set is expected to roll out of the factory in January 2014. The
rail cars will be produced with an indigenisation level of around 35%. The unit presently
employs 100 people and Alstom plans to double that number very soon.

West Pharmaceutical India Packaging Private Ltd, an indirect subsidiary of West

is Wests first plant in India and will become part of Wests global supply chain for its
world-class pharmaceutical packaging components. West plans to file Drug Master Files
for the plant with the United States Food and Drug Administration and Heath Canadas

The 15,300 square meter Phase 1 construction will begin in August 2012 on a metal
seal assembly and compression molding facility that will produce metal and elastomeric
pharmaceutical components used in primary packaging of injectable medicines
manufactured by Wests pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical customers in India and
the wider Asia Pacific region. Commercial production of metal components is expected
to begin in the first quarter of 2014. Production of a range of Wests high-quality
standard elastomeric components is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2015. The
capability to produce ready-to-sterilize components will be available by 2016. The builtup area for the plant and office will eventually reach 37,700 square meters at the
completion of Phase 3 in 2023.
West signed a 99-year lease on 72,800 square meters of land in the Sri City Special
Economic Zone (SEZ) in June 2012. For West, Sri City offers all the advantages of an
SEZ with a metropolitan location and was selected primarily on suitability because of

land, availability of utilities, labor suitability, logistics, quality of life and SEZ special
factors.

The Italian firm, which has presence in over 90 countries has invested over Rs125
crore in the facility with an initial capacity of 1,100 tonnes. The new facility is expected
to have production capacity of 1,400 tonnes in the second year and 1,600 tonnes in the
third year. The facility will not only meet the requirements for the Indian market, but will
also become a manufacturing hub for the subcontinent and Asia Pacific. The 115-yearold company sells 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes of coffee in Italy every year. Lavazza is the
sixth largest coffee roaster in the world.
The Sri City facility will replace the existing one at Chennai, which was launched in 2007
with an annual production of 960 tonnes. In the recent past, Lavazza acquired Barista
Coffee Company Limited and Fresh & Honest Caf Limited, Indias leading coffee
vending and retailing company in 2007. Baritsa Lavazza presently has 200 coffee shops
in the country while Barista Crme is present in over 30 locations. Fresh & Honest Caf
Limited has 3,000 coffee vending machines in 22 cities of India.

ISUZU utility vehicles and pick-up trucks to be made in Sri City, Nellore

The Japanese automotive giant Isuzu Motors signed agreements with the AP
Government and the Sri City SEZ to set up a Rs1500 crore manufacturing facility for its
MU-7 variant of sports utility vehicles (SUV) and D-MAX range of pick-up trucks in
SPSR Nellore district. The project will be set up on a 100-acre site purchased by the
company from Sri City, 55 km from Chennai. ISUZU will get 100 per cent concession on
payment of value-added tax from the AP government.

The plant with a capacity of 1.2 lakh units a year is expected to commence commercial
production by the end of 2015; 80,000 vehicles for the domestic market and 40,000 for
export. Till the time production started at Sri City, Isuzu would import completely built
units from its Thailand facility and sell them through its dealerships in Hyderabad and
Coimbatore. The plant is expected to employ 6,000 persons at full capacity.

Sri City SEZ Taking Nellore international

If there is anything that has taken Nellore international after SHAR and prawns (aqua
culture), it is Sri City SEZ. Sri City (Satyavedu Reserve Infracity Pvt. Ltd.) is South
Indias largest private sector multi-product Special Economic Zone (SEZ). It is located at
Tada near Sullurpet. Spanning an area of 7000 acres, it provides international class
industrial infrastructure to companies wanting to setup manufacturing units. It is
attracting thousands of crores of investment into Nellore.

Sri City Vision

As recently as Nov-2011, the Chief Minister of AP has participated in the ground
breaking of 10 units and dedication of 20 operational units and 13 units under
construction . International and Indian companies such as Hunter Douglas, Unicharm,
NHK Spring, Aisan, Kusakabe, EagleBurgmann, Tattva Energy and Mohan Mutha
witnessed the ground breaking ceremony. The companies are from diverse businesses
such as Auto Components, Building materials and Light manufacturing. Premier
educational institutions IFMR and CBS were amongst them. Japanese conglomerates
such as Kobelco Construction and Kobelco Cranes, Italys VRV Group & Lavazza,
Thailands Rockworth-Al Reyami, US based Control Components Inc. and Bahrain
based BFG were among the leading Industries located at Sri City.

If Pulicat lake is attracting birds like flamingos, pelicans across borders. Sri City(which
is situated just opposite to the lake) is attracting both foreign and Indian
companies. One look at the customer list of Sri City tells you how many international
companies are making Nellore as their home in India. At this rate, it could well
become the pride of Andhra Pradesh. Let us all wish good luck to Sri City. Incidentally
Mr Ravindra Sannareddy who is from Nellore is the co-founder of Sri City.
