Honorable Judge Mindy Glazer

1351 Northwest 12th Street
Miami, Florida 33125
January 25, 2016

Dear Honorable Judge Glazer:

To start off with, the Miami Fraternal Order of Police is extremely concerned and outraged by your less
than honorable decision of granting a measly $20,000 bond for a man that attempted to kill a Miami
Police Officer. There is no possible claim of self defense by this defendant who was observed by many
stabbing our Police Officer.
Our Miami Police Officer was in full uniform. The defendant had total disregard for not only the public at
the Magic City Casino, but for a law enforcement officer. Our Police Officer wasnt just stabbed in the
face, he also sustained a fracture to one of his limbs due to the barbaric actions of this defendant. Just
because the defendant wasnt successful in repeatedly stabbing our police officer, doesnt mean he wasnt
trying to kill him.
We all wonder how you got to the $20,000 number for a bond. This past June, you denied bond for a
defendant charged with attempted murder after he fired a gun at a man that had a dispute over dog poop
(Defendant Omar Rodriguez, bond hearing June 23, 2015).

Yet, in a case where there were countless lives at stake at one of Miamis premier destinations for casino
entertainment and where a Police Officer was stabbed in the face, you gave out a $20,000 bond. Your
actions have placed every law enforcement officer in jeopardy with allowing this piece of trash back onto
the streets of Miami. We are requesting that you immediately revoke Jose David Caravjal-Lopezs bond
to protect our community. If you dont, your message is clear. Attempting to take the life of a man over
dog feces is more valuable than a law enforcement officer who was clearly risking his life to protect the
public.
Sincerely,
Javier Ortiz
Javier Ortiz, President
Miami Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #20
