Darren Soto Receives Congressman Alcee Hastings Endorsement
Orlando State Sen. Darren Sotos campaign for Congress continues to gain momentum. Soto received Congressman Alcee Hastings endorsement today: Hastings has served in Congress since 1992. He currently represents Floridas 20th congressional district, including parts of Broward, Palm Beach, and Hendry Counties. Born in Altamonte Springs, Hastings knows Central Florida well. Darren Soto is exactly the kind of leader that this nation needs to serve in Congress, said Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (FL-20). He will be a consummate advocate for his constituents and fight every single day for hard working families in Florida. I am pleased to endorse his candidacy. Rep. Hastings has been a workers rights advocate throughout his career. Now, hes supporting the candidate he knows will continue that fight alongside him in Congress. "Representative Hastings has spent his career advocating for workers. I look forward to building the middle class and preserving Social Security and Medicare along with him in Congress, said Senator Darren Soto. We will fight to provide greater economic opportunities for working families. Soto has previously been endorsed by Congressmen Tony Crdenas, Xavier Becerra, Luis Gutirrez, Ruben Gallego, and Pedro Pierluisi. He has also received support from BOLD PAC, the Latino Victory Fund, and several unions: the Painters (IUPAT), Electricians (IBEW), Ironworkers (IPAL), Machinists (IAM), and Firefighters (IAFF). Senator Soto has represented much of Congressional District 9 for nearly a decade as a Florida legislator. Voters first elected him State Representative in 2007 and promoted him by electing him State Senator in 2012. During his time in the Florida Legislature, Soto has championed issues such as increasing funding for education, expanding Medicaid, fighting fracking and increasing funding to preserve Floridas springs, and preserving access to the courts for homeowners going through the foreclosure process. Darren Soto reported a 19% lead in early polling within the new Congressional District 9, and led Q3 fundraising by bringing in over $175,000.
