The need for a more active and aggressive government by society attracted ideas such as
fascism to develop, which eventually caused events such as WWII to take place due to the
small amount of freedoms combined with inequality given to society.

Evidence #1
Quality support
Significance (analysis)
2-3 sentences

Fascisms rise in Italy was fueled by bitter disappointment over the failure to win large territorial
gains at the 1919 Paris Peace Conference. Rising inflation and unemployment also contributed to
widespread social unrest. To growing numbers of Italians, their democratic governments seemed
helpless to deal with the countrys problems. They wanted a leader who could take action (Modern
World History, 476).
Commentary How does this evidence support your thesis?

Since the people of Italy felt that their current government was not good enough in keeping things
such as inflation, unemployment, and social unrest under control, they wanted a political party that
can be active and aggressive in dealing with these situations, and with this in mind, they looked to
Mussolini and his ideas on fascism.
Analysis How is this evidence significant to the historical event/context?

The want for a change in government in Italy is significant in this time period as the rising popularity
of fascist and nationalist ideas may prompt other countries that feel that their current government is
inactive to take actions to bring fascist ideas into their countries as well.

Evidence #2
Quality support
Significance (analysis)
2-3 sentences

Evidence # 2

The political parties which currently exist cannot be expected to bring about the radical change that
Germany needs. A political party will compromise with a political opponent. The Fascist worldview
never does this. The Fascist worldview knows it is never wrong (Mein Kampf).
Commentary How does this evidence support your thesis?

Before fascism started to spread in interwar Europe, people were not happy with the slow pace that
the democratic governments in their countries were moving at. Hitlers statement may have motivated
these people to consider this and consider fascism as well, which he claimed would change this.
Analysis How is this evidence significant to the historical event/context?

The fact that Hitler was trying to promote a change to fascism in Germany shows how easily the idea
that a democratic government is not active enough can spread during the interwar period.

Evidence #3
Quality support
Significance (analysis)
2-3 sentences

Evidence # 3

The forces currently in control of the world are Jews here and Jews there and Jews everywhere. The
hardship we are now experiencing is because of them. If this continues, the Jews will one day devour
the German nation and the world. We must wipe out the Jewish Empire which is now in control
(Mein Kampf).
Commentary How does this evidence support your thesis?

A large part in fascist ideals includes harsh limitations of rights for the people of a country. Hitlers
take on this went even beyond, with his want to eliminate Jews completely. Extreme ideas like these
could have possibly led to revolutions and eventually get other countries involved, leading to WWII.
Analysis How is this evidence significant to the historical event/context?

Much like Hitler, who wanted to eliminate Jews from the German society, dictators in other countries
influenced by fascism, such as Mussolini in Italy, felt that the dictator should have the power to decide
what rights people can or cannot have. Because of the extremity of which this goes to, this could
have easily been one of the contributing factors to WWII.

Conclusion

of thesis

Interesting rewording
1 sentence

Fascism was essentially brought about by the need for a government that can bring about
change during the harsh times of the interwar period, but the overly harsh limitations on
rights for individuals under fascism could have contributed largely to the events of WWII.
