Solar Walk
-Grades: 3-5
-Standard 3.E.1: Recognize
the major components and
patterns observed in the
earth/moon/sun system.
-This app allows users to navigate between planets, see their
positions on a specific date, explore how they move and why.
The Milky Way is visible from afar and users can zoom in to
study all the planets and satellites in a close-up view. This
app also gives information on the inner structures, history of
their exploration, and geography. Every planet also has
detailed information on size, mass, orbital velocity,
exploratory missions, thickness of structural layers, and
composition of atmosphere.
-This app would be beneficial because students would be
able to visually see the layout of the planets and gain an
understanding of each one. A downside would be students
thinking that the images shown are the entirety of outer
space. It may confuse some students.

Planets
-Grades: 3-5
-Standard 3.E.1: Recognize
the major components and
patterns observed in the
earth/moon/sun system.
-This app locates planets with flat view of the
sky. It also shows planetarium style view of
the sky. It gives information about what times
planets are visible and rotating 3D globe of
planets and moon
-This app would be very good to use when
teaching about the planets. Students would get
to visualize several views of the planets
including 2D and 3D.

The Human Body by

Tinybop
-Grades: 3-5
-Standard 3.L.1: Understand
human body systems and how
they are essential for life:
protection, movement and
support.
-This app allows the
exploration of a working
model of the body. Every part
is interactive: the heart beats,
guts gurgle, lungs breathe,
the skin feels, and eyes see.
-This app would be very beneficial for
teaching students the bodily functions of
humans and how every part interacts.

My Incredible Body
-Grades: 3-5
-Standard 3.L.1: Understand
human body systems and how
they are essential for life:
protection, movement and
support.
-This app takes kids on guided tours through
eight systems, digestive, respiratory, skeletal,
urinary, sensory, muscular, and
cardiovascular, in the human body using
accurate 3-D models with kid-friendly audio
clips.
-This app would be great to use when teaching the
systems in the human body. The real life images
are a pro and a con. It is nice to provide images
that are similar to their those in their bodies, but
they also may seem a little graphic to some

Kid Weather App

-Grades: Pre K-2
-Standard K.E.1: Understand change
and observable patterns of weather
that occur from day to day and
throughout the year.
-This app includes a display of the weather
with a kid or animal avatar that is dressed for
conditions and short term forecasts. Users
can also change the weather to see how the
avatar will dress. There are also fun facts
and trivia included in this app, as well as,
math and graphing.
-This app seems like something children would love
with the bright colors and ability to change the
weather, but it also seems very educational as well.

Weather 1:Weather
Patterns
-Grades: K-2
-Standard K.E.1: Understand
change and observable
patterns of weather that
occur from day to day and
throughout the year.
-This app focuses on the patterns in weather. It
gives an understanding that some events in nature
have a repeating pattern, but change from day to
day.
-This app would be beneficial to use when
teaching about the changes and patterns of
weather, but my go over some students heads.

Plants for Ipad

-Grades: 3-5
-Standard 3.L.2: Understand
how plants survive in their
environments.
-This app allows users to learn about plants in our
daily lives, how photosynthesis works, plants
around the world, unusual plants, climate change,
and ways people have used plants. This is
accomplished through 3-D models, videos,
animations, quizzes, games and much more.
-This app has much to offer and students would
enjoy the games and puzzles it provides. A con
would be it requires iOS 6.0 or later, but it is
compatible with iPad.

Plant by Tinybop
-Grades: 3-5
-Standard 3.L.2: Understand
how plants survive in their
environments.
-This app allows users to have views of forest, desert,
and grasslands. Users can spin through days, nights,
seasons, and years, to view each biomes lifecycles
over time. It also shows plant life above and below
ground.
-This app would be a nice teaching tool to show plant
life above and below the soil, as well as, showing how
plants change throughout the season.

Moon Phase
-Grades: 3-5
-Standard 4.E.1: Explain
the causes of day and
night and phases of the
moon.
-This app shows the current phase of the moon,
the current appearance of the moon, and the
countdown in days, hours and minutes to the
next moon phase.

-It app would be nice to use to show the students a visual

of the stages of the moon, as well as, a countdown to the
next stage. A downside would be, some students who
download this app at home may have an unfair advantage
to those who dont have technology accessible for moon
journals.

Phases of the Moon

-Grades: 3-5
-Standard 4.E.1: Explain
the causes of day and
night and phases of the
moon.
-This app shows very detailed pictures of the
moon. It also shows the current date, phase
name, illumination percentage, distance to the
Earth and Moon age, and an animation of the
changing of phases.
-The animation showing the changing of phases
would be very helpful to show to students.
