Subject: A proposal to raise awareness of police brutality
Purpose
Lately, it has become no surprise when we hear of a police officer mistreating a civilian. Even
less surprised when the victim is a minority. Police are here to protect us. It is wrong when they
are abusing and mistreating the people. Also, for every one cop that makes a mistake, the entire
police force get blamed and receives a bad reputation. The purpose of this memorandum is raise
awareness of the ongoing issue that is police brutality and to make clear not all cops are bad. The
goal is to have a community aware of the problem and ready to help end the problem. A
community where the relationship between police and the people is strong.
Problem
In the United States, police brutality is a problem that has been around for a long time. It doesnt
just occur in the U.S. alone, it is a global issue as well. Some places have it worse than others,
but the problem affects all victims the same.

Indonesia is a country where police brutality is a big problem. According to an article

written by amnesty.org, the police force do as they please. They beat innocent people
knowing they will not be punished. They do not have an independent to investigate all the
allegations against the police.
Turkey is another country with severe police problems. Police throw tear gas at peaceful
protesters when it is completely unnecessary.
The Economist reports that there was a case where a journalist was forced to a body
search. The officer had no warrant for her arrest. The officer then touched her
inappropriately and made the victim uncomfortable.

Solution
The goal is to raise enough awareness to extent where people will take action. A presentation will
be made to propose the subject. The presentation will be a power point explaining the issue and
showing statistics. One goal is to make clear that not all cops are bad. Most cops are doing their
job right. The mistakes of one cop shouldnt define all the cops. Another goal is to raise trust
between the community and the police. If the community does not along with the police then
problems are bound to start.
Conclusion

The purpose of this proposal was to raise awareness of the issue of police brutality. Also to make
it clear that not all cops are bad. The mistakes of a single cop shouldnt define the entire police
force. We should all work to build a strong relationship between the police and community.
