Assignment 1: Information Literacy

1) My article is titled Billions at stake in Apple Encryption Case. The article

was written on Saturday, February 20, 2016 and it is by Peter Bergen, the CNN National
Security Analyst.
2) This article is mainly about how the FBI is arguing with Tech companies,
specifically Apple, on the encryption of Internet communication. These encryptions are
so tough to break that even the U.S government is unable to crack the code. The FBI is
asking all the Tech companies to give them the information that is necessary for the
encryption. However, all the Tech companies are rejecting the FBIs request. Peter
Bergen tells us, the readers, that this is the start of a legal dispute with the FBI and every
Tech company in the U.S.
3) The key words I will be using will be FBI vs. Apple. I will be using Google
and Yahoo as my search engines. Both search engines were great but Google was better
than Yahoo because they provided me with reliable websites such as CNET, NYTIMES,
USATODAY,etc.
4) I will be evaluating the website I found on CNET titled, How an iPhone
became the FBIs Public Enemy Number One (FAQ).
Who: This article is by Sean Hollister, a Senior Editor of Reviews and Connie

>

Guglielmo, a Editor in Chief of News. Apple. Also, they interview people that are up to
date with this topic such as Julian Sanchez, a surveillance law expert at the libertarianleaning Cato Institute in Washington, DC.
Why: The purpose of this website is provide valid information to the readers on certain
topics of technology.
Where: This website is a .com website.
When: This article was written on February 20, 2016 at 2:01 PM PST. This article was
last updated on February 21, 2016 at 4:08 PM PST.
5) For searching at the CCBC Library Databases, I will be using the key words, FBI vs.
Apple. The database I will be using will be Academic Search Primer. I chose this
database out all of the databases available because they provided me with more accurate
articles than the other databases on this particular topic. This database also provides great
articles on various topics. The first two articles I found were Is Apple right to resist
court order to help the FBI? and its from USA Today. The second one is called, What
Presidential Candidates are saying about the Apple vs. FBI Debate. This article is
written by Jack Detsch, a Staff Writer for Christian Science Monitor.
6) I will be comparing the article I found on the Internet from CNET.com and the article
I found on the Academic Search Primer Database from the CCBC website. The
difference is that the article I found on the Internet is longer than the article I found on the
CCBC website. It provides the readers with lots of information on the dispute between
the FBI and Apple and what could happen in the future. Also, the article I found on the
Internet provides the readers with credible sources, something the CCBC database article
lacks. Both of these articles were easy to access, not like other websites that require you

>

to sign-up and pay a monthly fee for their articles. Both these articles lack authority
because the author doesnt give his opinion on this matter, he puts other peoples opinions
such as Republican candidates Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, etc.
7) I will be citing my sources in MLA Format
