Avenir

A political typeface
Adrien Frutiger, a Swiss designer created the Avenir typeface in 1988, and
since then is commonly used in various places. Avenir replaced the Futura
typeface and the designer himself said, that his work is much better, than the
older typeface. It is considered to have a more humane appearance, and not so
metric, like the other ones.
The Eurovision Song Contest uses Avenir and Francois Hollande also used it
in his president campaign. But it can be recognizable from the city of Amsterdam,
which uses is as principal typeface.
Avenir, a geometric sans, has moderate x-hight and moderate width. The
letters have a vertical center and the ones with arm and legs meet at stem,
forming a point. The s and a are quite different, because are not strictly
geometric. The a is more classically drawn with flat-topped bowel. The rounded
glyphs are circular and the terminals follow the natural path of stroke.
