Labette Center for Mental Health Services

Hires Behaviorist for Integrated Care at Labette Health
Labette Center for Mental Health Services is pleased
to announce that they have hired a behaviorist for the
position created through a grant from the Sunflower Foundation for integrated care. Amber Hughes,
LMSW, has been hired as the behaviorist in this new
and cutting edge approach to care. Amber will be stationed at Labette Health Family Practice Clinic, working hand in hand with the medical professionals in that
department. Originally from Neosho County, Amber
holds a BS in Psychology and Legal Issues from Pittsburg State University and a MSW from Missouri State
University.
This form of integrated care is a cutting edge approach
to patient care that integrates both physical and behavioral health. As described by the Sunflower Foundation, Integrated health care is
the systematic coordination of primary care (medical) and behavioral health services. Medical and behavioral health problems often occur at the same time. Simultaneously providing relevant health care services has been shown to yield the best
results and are welcomed by patients.
Kansas, with the assistance of the Sunflower Foundation, has been a leader in the
integrated care initiative. The process Labette Center will use to provide this care
will be to utilize the behaviorist stationed at Labette Health Medical Office Building
to see patients who may also be in need of behavioral health care. This person will
be available to see patients as needed when they visit a provider at the medical facility. This provides the opportunity for two systems to work together hand in hand to
provide this service to those in need. By creating this continuum of care, individuals
will be able to receive the care they need while at the doctors office and the opportunity to be referred to the mental health center to further their treatment if needed.
This is an exciting time for behavioral health care in Labette County, stated Matthew Atteberry, LSCSW, executive director of Labette Center. By receiving this
grant we have been given the ability to provide the best overall care by working hand
in hand with the medical community.

Brian Williams, president and CEO at Labette

Health, stated, Labette Health appreciates the
opportunity to work with LCMHS to provide
integrated care in our physician clinics by having a behaviorist working in our Medical Office Building.
As described on the Sunflower Foundation
website, A momentum is building in Kansas
for integrated care. Some local health providers are planning and testing models of integration . . . In a fully integrated health system,
mental health and primary care professionals
share worksites, information systems and patient care plans. A care team works corroboratively with the consumer to ensure a seamless continuum of care, coordinating enabling
services, specialty care and follow up appointments to support the primary medical and behavioral health needs of the individual.
Since the beginning of 2013, when the Center received a Sunflower Foundation planning
grant for integrated care, work has been done
to prepare for this current venture. Through
the last two years the Center has worked closely with the medical community to create a system of integrated care that will benefit patients
seen by physicians.
