Eating healthy isnt always easy.

This picture shows that fast food

dominates the world even though
people really want to be healthy, its
hard because in todays world
healthy food is not easy to find now

What Is a Food Desert?

Food deserts are isolated urban areas
where its hard to get healthy, affordable
food (Nutrition Digest).

Health Impacts:

Food choice correlate to social

class, if you live in an upper-class
neighborhood, you will have a
much bigger chance of coming
across a grocery store.
About 58.5% of lower-class
Americans live off food stamps.
People that dont live near grocery
stores or farmers markets have to
settle for fast convenience foods
rather than nutritious whole
foods.
Eating unhealthy has started to
become the normality in
households (Schulzke, 2012).

Potential Solutions

Create more healthy grocery stores

everywhere.
Demonstrating healthy food options
inside grocery stores so people
know how to be healthy on their
own. (Neighmond, 2014).
Schools should teach both children
and adults about healthy eating
and risks associated with poor
diets.
Something that everyone can
easily do, is plant a community
garden that everyone can access
for fruits and veggies.

The evolution of food deserts started in

the 1960s (Mead, 2008). Food deserts
increased into an environmental issue
because grocery stores were removed
from low income areas and people never
came up with a solution to stop it (Chinni
2011). The most current information
about food deserts is that people have no
access to nearby grocery stores (Brat,
2015). If food deserts continue to grow,
life span with decrease and people will
become unhealthy because no healthy
food will be available. If we take action
now and combat food deserts, they will
not be a threat and being healthy and
making good food choices will be easier.

Call to Action:
Our communities should stop eating fast
foods so regularly. We should be creating
more community gardens and try to get
everyone more educated about the
diseases we can obtain if we maintain
these horrible diets. We can start having
more cooking classes, and start creating
grocery stores which we can fund by
fundraising and donors so it can be
accessible for everyone.
