What is the main focus of this lesson?
This lesson includes four stations where students get to practice adding, subtracting, and finding
equivalent fractions.
How does this lesson tie in to a unit plan? (If applicable.)
This is lesson 4 in the fraction unit. In this lesson students get to practice working with fractions in
stations.
What are your objectives for this lesson? (As many as needed.) Indicate connections to
applicable national or state standards. If an objective applies to only certain students write the
name(s) of the student(s) to whom it applies.
1) SWBAT add, subtract, and find equivalent fractions.
2) SWBAT use technology to practice adding, subtracting, and comparing fractions.
3) SWBAT solve real world problems that deal with fractions.

Assessment

summative)

Students should know how to add, subtract, multiply, and simplify fractions.
They should also know how to find equivalent fractions.
Formative: I will be walking around making sure students are
understanding how to solve the fraction problems at each station.

Summative: I will be able to see how well students did on the IXL app by
tracking their answers. I will also be looking at their recording sheets from
the story problem station.

fractions. These activities serve as
practice doing these things with fractions.

12 iPads, Fraction Learning (free) app, 4th Grade Math app, IXL app, pencils,
computer with timer on screen, story problem cards, recording sheet, scrap
paper, dominoes, equivalent fraction board, marker chips

Stations will be set up around the room, and students will rotate to each
one every 10 minutes.

- Introduce the stations that students will be rotating to
- There will be 4 groups of 6 students that will rotate every 10 minutes

Split students into groups of 4 and set a timer on the screen where they
rotate to a new group every 10 minutes
Stations:
#1 iPads Fraction Learning (free) have them practice addition, subtraction,
and equivalents
#2 story problems (have students record their answers on the sheet that
goes with the questions)
#3 iPads 4th Grade Math (fractions) & IXL if exceeds the daily limit on first
app
#4 equivalent fractions game or War by adding up the dominos and the
larger sum wins (they will need scrap paper)
