Assessments Adaptations

All accommodations for this unit are made for a third grade student with
a behavioral disability, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD). This students work is strong at the beginning of assignments,
and decreases the longer the assignment goes on.
Lesson Plan 1: For this assessment, students will work in groups to
research ether the Preamble, the Articles, or the Bill of Rights of the
Constitution. After each group presents their section, students will each
fill out a worksheet called We the Students as if they are creating their
own Class Constitution. To modify this assessment for my student with a
behavioral disability, I would put up a privacy screen at the students
desk to limit distractions that may affect behavior. I would also create a
system of cues between the student and myself to help refocus their
attention. If after the first two adaptations do not work, I will allow the
student to have a short 2 minute brain break before returning to work.
Lesson Plan 2: During this assessment, students will have to answer
questions regarding the Nicolay Copy and the Hay Draft of the
Gettysburg Address. This formal assessment is the completion of the
worksheet. For the student with a behavioral disability, I will put up a
privacy screen at each students desk to limit distractions that may affect
behavior. I will also have some sentences started for some of the more
open-ended questions on the worksheet. I will also implement the use of
brain breaks when needed.
Lesson Plan 3: During this lesson, students are learning about William
Penn and the Charter of Privileges over the course of a week. Students
will come together as a class to create a Class Constitution. Students will
follow all of the rules that are created in this Constitution for a few days.
After the end of the time period of following the Class Constitution,
students will have to write a reflective essay. This essay will reflect on
what they have learned the past week, commenting on issues that
William Penn faced in creating a government for his colony. Students

will also compare and contrast what they learned the past week to the
assigned reading that they had for homework. For my student with a
behavioral disability, I will again put up privacy screens at each desk to
limit distractions. I will also have sentence starters for the student to use
when creating their reflective essay. Again, I will provide the student
with brain breaks when needed.
Lesson Plan 4: For this last assessment, students will work in groups to
research a historic place around them and create a brochure or webpage
that has these places in it. For the student with a behavioral disability, I
will partner them with students that they work well with. This may
improve the quality of their work. I will also provide the student with
brain breaks when needed.
