Interesting Beginning
From age ten, Sonia Sotomayor knew she wanted to be a lawyer
Fell in love with Nancy Drew book series
After reading N.D. series wanted to become detective

S.S. discovered had Type One Diabetes (age 7)


Due to diabetes told could not be detective

Inspiration to become lawyer came after told could not be


detective
Watched Perry Mason, TV show about a lawyer, and wanted to become
one herself

What Can we Learn?


Do not discriminate against people based on gender or race
Sonia Sotomayor Female Puerto Rican was discriminated against
People assumed she could not succeed as well as an American Male

As long as you try your hardest to reach your goals,despite your background, you
can reach them
Sonia Sotomayor ignored those that wanted drag her down and focused herself on her
goal of becoming a lawyer
She ended up becoming a lawyer and then eventually, a Supreme Court Justice
