AN ACT TO INCREASE PARTICIPATION AND EFFICIENCY IN SENATE
SESSIONS
Be it enacted by the Senate of the Student Government Association assembled,
Section 1. Findings -- The Senate finds the following:
a.
When in session, the Senate is governed by Roberts Rules of Order, Newly Revised.
b.
It is essential for each Senator to have a solid understanding of Roberts Rules of Order.
c.
Achieving a working proficiency in parliamentary procedure will allow Senators to
actively participate and adequately represent the interests of their constituents in legislative
proceedings.
d.
Additionally, a uniform understanding of Roberts Rules of Orders will allow the Speaker
to facilitate efficient Senate sessions, allocating more time to the discussion of legislative matters
while reducing the time spent explaining procedural nuances.
Section 2. The Senate hereby charges the Senate Committee on Rules to organize a
parliamentary procedure training session, to be held during August, 2016. The committee shall
have the power to determine the time and place of the training event, and to coordinate with the
necessary university departments and organizational groups to obtain access to all necessary
training aids.
Section 3. The Chair of the Committee on Rules shall accept nominations from members of the
Senate, and the committee shall select an instructor to lead the training session from said pool of
nominees.

Whereas, the SGA has a duty to run efficiently from administration to administration; and

that includes more specific job requirements and duties; and
Whereas, the attached list has been composed through the collaboration of the current and
immediate past executive cabinet and approved by the Personnel Board unanimously; and
Whereas, this list shall serve as the updated comprehensive list of SGA director positions in the
executive branch; and
Whereas, this list shall be uploaded to the SGA website and remain there as long as it is the most
current approved list;
Therefore be it resolved, that the University of Alabama Student Government Association Senate
